    ILLINOIS................worst corn crop ever?
That is what Agweb is reporting......................

"The further I went away from the Red River Valley, the more corn I saw. I was surprised though that I didn’t see as much prevent planting as I thought I would. What I did see was soybeans in two different stages. I saw soybeans that looked pretty good and then soybeans that looked half the size and were yellow."

Most analysts, Gulke included, believed producers would take prevented planting on the eastern North Dakota acres. Rather, it appears they decided to plant soybeans and passed on the guaranteed income they could have received from prevented planting acres.
Many of those soybeans fields had standing water and that was the cause of the yellow soybean plants.

Further to the west, where Gulke’s farm is, he saw more and better corn. "It’s the best crop I’ve seen all year, including my farm in northern Illinois. If there’s not 200 bu./acre corn there, I’ll eat my hat. If they don’t get an early frost, these guys are going to get the best crop they’ve ever had."

He’s seeing a similar situation in South Dakota. "What corn is there looks astonishing. What got in in time looks very good. Soybeans don’t look good at all."

He’s seen similar situation in Illinois. At least a crop that doesn’t look very good.

Starting just north of Champaign and travelling to near Bloomington, he saw a horror story.
"I saw some of the worst corn that I’ve ever seen in my life. I did not expect to see $350-$400/acre cash rent land not produce corn."

Closer to Bloomington, the crop got better, he says, calling the corn crop normal. And normal is about the best he thinks you’ll see in Illinois.

Emerson Nafziger, crop production specialist at the University of Illinois, says the crop is very spotty in Illinois. Depending on where you are will tell you how good of a crop you have.
Concerns over high nighttime temperatures have entered the market discussions this year, after the 2010 crop suffered through a very hot July. "Last year the crop was not as prepared," Nafziger says. "There is a much better root system this year in Illinois."

Still, you can’t tell until you get into the fields and count kernels. That will be the key says Nafziger.

been long corn for a while now..buy the ETF (symbol CORN), it holds next 3 expiring contracts. $46 today, will be $55 by March if we get a brutally cold winter. Farmers will need to buy more corn, and the extra demand will push up prices.

No, it it grown in many states.

However, Illinois ranks 2nd only to Iowa in terms of production, and in some years, they are #1..................

Both Iowa and Illinois need moisture at this time, although from the reports, Illinois is sufferring much worse drought conditions.

USDA’s Crop Production report released this morning caught just about everybody by surprise(LMFAO), and while the numbers were bullish for all of the major crops, the soybean numbers were the highlight. “Soybeans may have the most upside price potential,” says Jack Scoville, vice president of the Price Futures Group, Chicago. Scoville was the guest commentator on this morning’s MGEX conference call.
USDA lowered estimates for planted acreage, harvested acreage, average yield, and carryout on soybeans. According to today’s report, USDA estimates soybean production at 3.06 billion bushels, down 8% from last year. In its first field-based survey of the year, USDA put this year’s average soybean yield at 41.4 bushels per acre, a drop of 2.1 bushels from last year.

The department’s estimate on harvested acreage of 73.8 million acres fell 1% from June’s estimtate and is a 4% decline from 2010. Planted area fell fractionally from USDA’s June estimate to 75 million acres.

Scoville expects November soybean futures to retest and break through their highs near $14/bu. “Then $15.25 and $15.50 would be the next target for the bulls,” Scoville says.

Chad Hart, agricultural economist with Iowa State University, recommends soybean producers sit tight before placing a hedge in the futures market. “I’ve been waiting for the soybean market to blow up,” says Hart. “It’s been so tight for so long.”

If November beans close limit-up today, a real possibility, prices tomorrow are likely to break through $14/bu. “This could be a two-day report,” Hart says. “Producers should give it at least a couple of days to play out.”

                                      Any firsthand report on soybeans?

ACREAGE for soybeans in Illinois has to be considerably down if what you say is true, as I don't think Illinois is going to have many record yields. Illinois may have a record corn crop just because of acres planted.

CORN is a BILLION dollar industry........it is grown in many states.

Iowa and Illinois lead the pack year in and year out.

It is one positive for this country.

With no corn, this country would be no more.

IOWA may be adding CANOLA as their THRID CROP(CORN,SOYBEANS), as a WINTER CROP.

If productive, the Iowa farmland bull market will continue up at an amazing pace.

Iowa is once again looking like they will lead the nation in total bushels of corn produced..............wow!

Once again, hot and dry weather conditions remained prevalent across Illinois. Isolated showers brought a little rain to some areas but had no significant impact on the overall state conditions. Crops and livestock continue to show signs of stress due to the weather. Statewide temperatures averaged 80.3 degrees, 6.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation across the state averaged 0.44 inches, less than half of the normal precipitation of 0.90 inches.

Many producers are taking advantage of the dry conditions by applying fungicides and insecticides, baling hay, mowing roadsides, and moving leftover grain.
