if he never went to jail and had to take that time off, he would have been the best ever no questions about it

boxing at its greatest, now we have to watch that stupid Russian throw a couple jabs for 12 rounds then go to the card every time to keep his belt....miss the good old days when the heavyweight division was loaded

Tyson was an absolute beast. In his prime, I've never seen a more brutal and vicious fighter, he was unbeatable. I remember watching his fights and you could see the fear in his opponents eyes before the fight even started. Still remember it had gotten so bad, that we had to decide if it was worth buying the PPV to watch half a round or if we were real lucky maybe 2 rounds, but still had to watch and see how Mike was gonna destroy the guy. Too bad he couldn't keep it all together.

Funny that you posted this Dad, I just watched several of Tyson's fights last week on You Tube.

I love his quotes the most.

His style was so aggressive, what's not to like?

However, when you say you want to "eat someone's children", he "wished he could stomp on their testicles", he "sacrificed most of his life can he at least get a blow job, "I'll fuk you till you love me faogoggt", etc...I mean it's an incredible lineage.

He was unreal. I remember exactly what Roadtrip said about deciding whether it was worth it or not to buy his PPV. Used to be a discussion amongst my fraternity brothers to see if it was worth all paying $10 or not.

Mike Tyson was a destroyer. He would have been the greatest heavyweight ever had it not been for his lack of discipline in all aspects of life once Cus died. The only chink in his armor may have been his inability to fight hurt. We saw the disgraceful performance against Holyfield and it's obvious once he got sent to the canvas by Buster Douglas, the aura of invincibility was gone forever.

I would like to have seen him take a big punch in his younger days. I have never seen anything like the 1980's Mike Tyson, perhaps with the notable exception of Opie fighting his frat brothers for the last beer.

Looked great against bums, not so much against real fighters like holyfield/lewis.

Still was great for the sport, not many more exciting.

Tough to say how it would have played out without all the jail stuff.

What the hell are you talking about?

Mike Tyson's success had little to do with fighting bums, or his prison time, and EVERTYTHING to do with his technique. All you have to do is watch his film, as it becomes obvious that his boxing style changed after he left Kevin Rooney.

Simply put look at his head movement, before and after Rooney.

Tyson's head movement, especially in his early fights under Rooney, was amazing. He was constantly moving side to side, as well as bobbing up and own. Mike was using the peek-a-boo style that Cus D'amato taught him. His defense was as impressive as his offense in the ring back then as well. His opponents couldn't hit him, and Mike would just weave the jabs or straights to get inside where he where could use his speed and power to land those nasty combinations.

After Rooney, you saw less and less head movement with each fight, the essential characteristic that made Mike Tyson a feared boxer. He started getting hit and the bigger heavyweights were able to land their jab, meaning Tyson couldn't get inside and throw his combinations. Not surprisingly that's when he started to decline as a fighter, changing from a boxer to a headhunter relying solely on his power to win fights.

Tyson was unreal in the late 80's.....remember those times fondly as a 13-14 year old.
