Norm MacDonald: risked $25k to win $3,125 Pacquiao/Mosley fight

Norm MacDonald. Norm’s earned a reputation as something of a degen sports bettor, which you might think is the sole reason someone would risk $25k to win a comparatively paltry $3,125. Frankly, we think Norm did it just to piss off Mayweather, who has not been shy about bragging of his own Vegas sportsbook triumphs. For the record, Mayweather claims he didn’t watch the Pacquiao/Mosley fight because he didn’t want to put his pay-per-view money into Top Rank promoter Bob Arum’s pocket. Well, that and Floyd was worried that watching Manny fight might give him nightmares.

Norm was on Howard Stern a few week ago, before his show started airing and said he hasn't gambled in a long long time. Last time he gambled, he was in Atlantic City at a casino and walked out with 60K went to the river near buy and threw the 60K into the river. That was the last time he's gambled, according to what he said.

I saw this on his show and figured it was all just a joke.

Yea, I'm not sure it's possible, it could of happened, but coulda just been a sort of spoof. It aired on his TV show, and it was pretty funny bit...

That's what I was wondering, but then thought if a guy had a serious problem with gambling, I don't know if he'd be the one going into the casino placing the bet. And I'm not sure how popular the show is and if it has a big following, where as the company wouldn't mind possibly losing an extra 25k on a bet. But that also is what I thought when they first showed it, but then thought it was just a fake ticket.

Ya, he went on Stern, then Letterman, then Kimmel, then Daily Show I think. He was also supposed to be on Leno last night but didn't show for some reason and he's scheduled for Conan on Tuesday and Ferguson 5/25.

He also told a gambling story on Letterman about how he was handicapping MLB recently and he went to make a bet and then he saw a guy throw down big money on a 4-1 boxer so he bet that instead. The boxer was knocked out in 25 seconds. Turns out it was just a rich guy named Longshot Louie and he just loved betting longshots and had no extra knowledge of the fight. I think it might have just been a joke but not sure. He always has different answers when people ask him if he's still gambling.

He might not have much money. Probably why he all of a sudden burst on the scene after disappearing for years. He went from doing nothing in the public for years to hosting high stakes poker, a comedy central stand up special, sports show with norm macdonald, talk show rounds, and desperately trying to gain a twitter following in the matter of a couple months. He probably needs the money.
