#317It has been on and off during the day. It's not like it's been completely off during the last 30 hours, but getting your bets in can be... challenging. But it hasn't been impossible.Originally posted by JBTWow, still nothing... and it's been over 30 hours I believe.Comment -

#319Well, after the wikileaks stuff even M4sterCard had to succumb to one for a day, so that should tell you something about how powerful DDoS attacks can be. Pinnacle is small fish compared to that.Originally posted by giorgimcant believe such a serious bookie cant beat a DDOS attack ((Comment -

If it was in the US, they'd have 15346245645 other routes to get packets out.Comment -

The problem is not they can't send packets out, but that too much packets are trying to go in

#324You cannot stop a DDOS attack. THere is no way for a internet site to separate hostile traffic from regular traffic, thus a DDOS attack cannot be stopped. The attacks are too sofisticated.
What happens here is probably that the hackers either
1. ask for money to stop the DDOS attack
2. stop the DDOS attack and tell pinny they will do the same thing again during the next weekend if pinny doesnt pay them $1 million or somethingComment -

#327Some of these botnets have 20,000+ computers at their beck and call, and can bring down almost any site on the internet (apart from the Google's of this world). To properly counter these attacks you need highly sophisticated filtering/firewall software and hardware farms - not likely Pinnacle have it with their Costa Rican hosting provider, but you can bet they will be looking into it after the last days events.
Pinnacle would be losing literally $M's per day in revenue - a perfect target for hacker extortion. I wouldn't be surprised if Pinnacle is being demanded 7 figure sums for the DDOS to stop.Comment -

#335Originally posted by ZuonI confirm and underline the DimOK words:
NO ONE COULD REPEL A WELL-ORGANIZED DDOS ATTACK.
In this case Pinnacle don't have any responsability
You got it wrong, there are companies guaranteeing 99.9% up time these days,it does cost some $$$ tho
Originally posted by big limpinNo, it is not. If it is so impossible for Pinnacle or anyone to protect themselves, why are banks not being hit daily?
My take on it is that Pinnacle is just ******* cheap and don't want to spend on proper counter measures.
I am with you there, pinny acting cheap when it comes to picking well and good hosting service along with protection and ensuring up time 24/7

True, regular hosting services can't handle such attacks but as said earlier these days there are business offering full protection and no one could get sites down if dealing with experts in that field
Not the case, yesterday they were running normal even during downtime changing lines etc just that no one could get in,bets i have placed while could get in there were settled properly as well as live betting lines channging on MLB when the bastrds were not attacking the site.Originally posted by DemoralizdDreamrDo u guys think they are lying about the DOS attack to avoid getting raped today??

They run their attacks during peak hours,i hope some1 put this for an end and lock up these bastards
As far as Pinny goes, very disappointing to see them not taking the required steps available to keep their site accessable at any given moment as should be.Comment -

#341Seriously, I hope pinnacle get out of this by securing themselves and their bandwith somehow and not paying up. There is a good book on this subject I have detailing stories of it from back in the day when BetCRIS and BlueSq and canbet got hit etc, if anyones interested ill look out the titleComment -

#342Pinnacle could benefit from using captchas (security codes) in their login page in order to block unwanted requests. Also, b/c their IP address is functional (although no login access currently), it might be a ddos attack on their DNS servers, which are located in Netherlands Antilles, not in Costa Rica as some have suggested. In fact, all their hardware/software must be located on the island of Curacao in order for Pinnacle to meet their regulatory agency's gaming licensing guidelines.Comment -
