I grew up playing cards with the sort. I recall what is now TX. Hold 'em was, to us, just called "flop". We played stud and numbers games, e.g. 7/27, etc. Those guys were all old school. Everyone at the table was packing heat except the losers, which, of course, included my young ass. Gosh, those games would go on until all the fish were cleaned. Everyone smoked like trains, except me. None of them were math wizards BUT what I noted was the sharpest 'cats' there always had an edge. They played very tight and had a certain crude but efficient knowledge of mathematics. Something like the old man who used to square a house w/o any real paper and pencil knowledge that the sqr. root of "c"=a+b.

I have never seen a nerd who can look at this season's college Football wchedule and accurately predict the correct line.
