What 25 CDs are a must have for any collection?
Hi everybody, just got back from a morning bicycle race and now I am currently having my first beer waiting for the draft to start. Last night I was removing and installing a new piece of T.V. entertainment center furniture and I realized that I own way too many cds to be believed. I didn't even try to count them, but I was looking at them and I compiled a list of 25 that I feel just must be there. In order to get down to 25 I limited myself to picking just 1 cd from each artist. So groups like Metallica, Tool, Led Zepplin, Rush, Alice in chains, and some others can only have 1 title. Since I am always looking for more music to listen to please list your top 25 cd's that you simply must have. The list has been compiled and placed in random order because that is how I like it.

    1. AC DC Back in Black
    2. The Who Tommy
    3. Alice in Chains Dirt
    4. Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
    5. Metallica Master of Puppets
    6. Pearl Jam Ten
    7. Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies
    8. Dead Kennedys Give Me Convience or Give Me Death
    9. Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine
    10. Rush 2112
    11. White Zombie La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1
    12. Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
    13. Pantera Cowboys from Hell
    14. Judas Priest British Steel
    15. The Doors In Concert
    16. Nirvana Nevermind
    17. Led Zepplin IV
    18. Green Day American Idiot
    19. Tool Aenima
    20. Jane's Addiction Nothings Shocking
    21. Guns N Roses Appetite for Desruction
    22. Iron Maiden Number of the Beast
    23. NOFX Wolves in Wolves Clothing
    24. The Mentors You Axed for It
    25. Biohazard State of the World Address

I like your style... several of these would make my final list...Dirt, Siamese Dream, Nothings shocking, Zepplin, Aenima (some others too). I dont really get into the stuff that get much heavier like Pantera and I kind of soured on AC/DC in the past few years

An impossible question to get right, and one that I just spent 30 minutes attempting to answer before giving up.

Come on dude, I originally was going to say 10, but when I looked at my list of 100 or so, I decided to cut it down to 25. If you had to load up just 25 of these cds on the ipod and you were going to not be able to change it what would it be?

Where is Iron Maiden, Annihilator, or Barry White. This collection is junk without these three legends.

Iron Maiden is number 22 on the list, I left out Annihilator because I only have the Set the World on Fire cd, and I can't name them all. As for Barry White, he has the hands down top make out music made ever.

Try to hold each artist or group down to just 1 entry.

None of these albums that have been mentioned are even close to being top 25 material...maybe top 25 metal music, but not general top 25. Like BO'R said, it is almost impossible to construct a list like this...you'd have to do it by musical preference.

Here is a site that everyone now and then I'll consult...

Lists like this have to be done by genre.

With that said, Appetite and Back in Black are automatic in any metal/rock list.

For a pop/alternative or whatever you want to call it Top 25, Joshua Tree and Violator are automatics.

Why do you guys want to limit or censor yourself to a certain genre. If you had just 25 to take with you, which would they be, in any genre or mixed genre? I admit to being a metal / Punk rock slanted type of music listener myself. My kid is definitely a gangsta rap wigga ( I believe). It is still early on the west coast, so I'm sure that the gangsta guys aren't awake yet. Hell there may even be some lounge lizard types out there with the Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, and possibly Abba taste to weigh in.

Didn't like ABBA sell 300 millions records worldwide? They still sell 3 million albums per year eventhough they haven't produced anything in some 30 years.

Yea, breaking it down into genres is crazy. The way I understood Rage explain it is that If you had to keep 25 cds in your collection, what would it be? I listen to a little rap and mostly metal so those are the CDs I would keep.

I said to list YOUR top 25 cds. There are no experts in my opinion, just people who are lucky enough to spout their opinions and get paid for it.

I like music - but I don't buy CDs anymore because of the behaviour of the music industry:

                                                  - they take to the court poor persons (also children or their parents) whom they blame to have copied some mp3 in the internet (who anyway were not able to buy that music even if they hadn't copied it). Actually they fight against their own customers.

                                                  - the costs of CDs didn't drop even if the costs of production decreased a lot

                                                  - the music industry claims to support the artists but in reality it is only useful for a few artists who are rich anyway but the majority of not so well known artists doesn't profit at all from that industry (by the way why must art be an 'industry' - doesn't real artists do art even if they wouldn't get any money for it? And haven't there been good music before there was that industry which tries to profit by it?)

                                                  - I don't like the lobbyism how they try to influence the politicians to protect their rights more than the rights of other groups of society

                                                  ... and many more reasons...
