Opinions from SBR ownership (and users)
The last months the players talk forum has consisted of posts about who is owing who money, who is "barreled" in, what girl is hottest, x numbers of posts about one particular user and so on. I remember when I joined it was more posts containing sportsbookproblems...well it is sort of good, there are less complaints, and my intention is not to ask for less such "off topic" posts, as I think its more entertaining and let us admit it..posting is a lifestyle.

What I am asking is: Is this forum moving in the right direction? What are the opinions of both ownership and forum user about this topic? Is there enough quality posts at the moment?

Well just wanted to hear some feedback, and sorry if my English is not great, its not my native language

imo there is a decent amount of quality, but there could be much more. There are different ways to go about getting that.

I should define quality, I mean for some posters a certain subject is quality, for others something different. At the end is the users expektations and satisfaction level, that should count. I have to admit I enjoy it more now than when I started, but that is obviously because I am starting to know users more and feel more "at home"..I do miss more updates on sportsbook complaints. I dont think a user should come back and ask for the situation, there should be more feedback from the SBR staff. Its interesting to know how they deal with problems.

Changes are part of any forum. And life in general. Things may be different now, but when you continue to grow at the rate this forum does, different personalities will be mixed together and the end result is posters will react adversely to that. I'm sure there are guys that like it better now, just as there are others who liked it smaller.

The forum has more of an attitude about it now, a lot more sarcasm, OT stuff, but that's why they added Think Tank and Industry forum. Players Talk is now just general discussion. A complaint I do have, is I feel that the Suggestions forum is even less active from a mods/admin perspective now. You almost have a better chance at getting an idea or suggestion heard in Players Talk.

The only quality here resides in the Think Tank, and some useful threads in other handicapping forums. Players talk is just if you want to waste some time.

I think maybe switching the "State of the Industry" and "Players Talk" forums in the lineup might be a good idea, put "State" first, keep the Think Tank second, and have Players Talk third. That way people will know that the "meaty" gambling posts are in the first two, while the Players Talk forum will seem more like what it is, more of a catch-all forum.

If more people read and respond to posts about titties, Iraq, jjgold, which of the female posters is the most sarcastic, etc etc, than they do to posts about sports betting, then so be it. All you can really do is have more aggressive moderation I guess.

I agree with HG, as well of the general tone of this thread. There should be a "babble" forum at the bottom or something where people can talk about non sportsbook related stuff. The off topic stuff has a place, as JJGOLD said, but it shouldn't be the centerpiece of the forum.

activity dictates what the centerpiece is. we need more people wanting to contribute whats currently lacking.

                        whos going to step up?

crazyl will step up come football season. I will try to post as many plays as possible. I've never been big into "recognition", posted a handful of plays since NFL year.

I think a lot of us are just bored. Especially with hoops coming to an end and only slow ass bases to really bet, I have a feeling all this "blah things are ghey" feelings will subside come NFL, BTP, etc..

plays, with reasoning, i think its something we would all like to see. boredom could play a factor, we need more ways to make things fun/give incentives. I think the write up contests will help. I plan on providing a lot come football season as well.

When I first starting posting at this forum in Sept. of '06, I posted only in the NFL section. I posted my column and participated in NFL discussion; I didn't even know there was a players talk section, and therefore, when NFL season came to a close, I left the forum and didn't come back until the following August. I like other sports for entertainment, but as far as contributing any serious knowledge, NFL is about it - with, perhaps some golf on the side.
Anyway, players talk has kept me around during the off-season, so I think it definately has it's place - the location of which will undoubtedly be determined by the participants of this forum.
                                  That's my 2 cents.

I think there needs to be clear cut separation between sports related topics and other topics but i think all topics should be allowed unless it resorts to actually threatening a forum member.

This way people interested in just sports can go to their area and do business and the people who want to talk about other things can talk about the other things in their own special area.

Maybe the solution is to only post sports related materials in the actual forums related to the sport/contest and not in the "Players Talk" forum. Then just make the "Players Talk" forum the non-sports forum.

I would have preferred if this forum had maintained its original character. Too late for that now.

The last interesting point/discussion that stands out to me was with Justin, about a teaser angle in the NFL. That was a while back.

This forum was about discipline, edge, and winning. Now it's about lack of discipline, lack of focus, and losing.

SBR has missed the boat with this forum. Dramatically so. But SBR Odds is great. And some of the contests are fun.

FWIW, I don't need a forum to replace my social life. Which, I think, is what this forum has become to a rather large section of its population.

If you stay in the handicapping forums and stay out of Player Talk then there is usually useful information. Player Talk has turned into the Trash folder of Yahoo Mail.

Something I have been complaining about for a long time, there are more than a few posters on this forum that 95% of their posts are harassment of other posters. I have asked repeatedly why these posters are allowed to stay here. There are about a dozen or so posters on here that if they were banned that would clean up 80% of the nonsense, harassment, etc.

When I first joined this forum it was pretty informative. There were a lot of good handicappers sharing information. But the constant harassment from the idiots drove many of these people away.

I find it very puzzling as to why SBR would prefer to have the idiots who harass anyone who makes an intelligent post as opposed to the knowledgeable posters who make intelligent posts, but they show by their tolerating the idiots' nonsense that they prefer the idiots.
