also appears they are picking and choosing which ones to put there that aren't gambling related.

if the saloon is to be the spot for random banter, then ~80% of jj's threads need to be moved there.

This makes sense and we will tweak. We hear a lot of guys complain that the chit chat unrelated to sports, is taking over our main board, Players Talk. But guys don't want us to organize it and move stuff. The Saloon is intended to be our everyday chat topics but to start we were keeping the non-sports PT in there as well.

Keeping in mind both the 8000 guests as well as the guys who have been hanging out for years, what would you guys like to see?

As a start you need to put a sticky in Players Talk encouraging posters to post the chit chat topics directly to The Saloon. As you can see from this thread some people have no idea what is The Saloon. An internal memo to JJ will also help to keep his chit chat topics out of Players Talk and only post his sports related topics in Players Talk (like the Green Bay Packers have no chance of winning the Superbowl). I think if JJ posts some of his chit chat non-sports related topics in The Saloon people will follow since he is a trend setter here.

I know as of late, there are days that I cant even find one thread to post a comment in PT. Dont know that this means anything, but when a person cant find one thread to say anything in there is something wrong. Of course there could just be something wrong with me, and not PT,JMO.

When a PT thread is truly sports related, it's already linked in the appropriate subforum from PT. The ones that aren't seem to be just random chatter anyway with little use to help anyone, including guests, make a decent bet. "Rodgers is the greatest QB ever" is the same kind of conversation you'd have with your buddies in a bar after you finished talking about if you'd ever fukk your aunt. Not really helping anyone make money but amusing nonetheless.

also sbr seems to do very very well on google, a lot of people probably come in here and just look around. with some returning and some not

Give it time... A few things were moved that shouldn't have been. The Saloon will be fine. You can encourage folks to stop in there but not force them by moving threads. The idea of dumping the Private Zone is a good one. The Off Topic Saloon as the #2 forum, under PT, is a forum and a concept that we believe in. Now we have to manage it correctly.

The nice thing about PT was that you just post whatever there. What are the guidelines for topics allowed? I can't speak for others but I always thought it was nice to have a big melting pot of topics in one place. I mean, that is one thing that sets this place apart. Can you imagine poster of the month?? Wow, that just got boring.

So no more posting in the Private Zone or dumping it entirely? It looks as if threads will be moved there but no new posts permitted in them.

Missed the memo. What happens to offensive stuff (porn) posted in the Saloon, does it stay or get moved to the PZ? If it's moved this could mean infractions for the porn-posting poster. Posters used to be able to post porn freely in the PZ. Don't see much of it these days but there were porn threads started in there. This could mean the death of porn at SBR! Good thing Plommer (Betplom) isn't around to find out he can't add a hairy cunt each day to a hairy cunt thread. RIP Plommer

Its a work in progress. The idea is to eliminate the Private Zone. If the material is too raunchy/hate related it will be deleted. There are other forums on the net for that. We just don't see a future in hardcore or hate related forum stuff. We will give the Saloon a lot of leeway but over the top stuff will be zapped.

The Saloon is a great idea. Lets give it some time. It will be months if not years before it becomes The Saloon. But some kind of encouragement needs to be done for people to start posting there the chit chat threads instead of being the dumping place of Players Talk so that The Saloon can get its own identity.

I was getting used to the way things were working... as a newer guy I was figuring out how pz, pt and gd were all working and thought is was pretty slick. Now there is the saloon and a change on the horizon with pz and I have already noticed the difference negatively. So I just say why change it? If it ain't broke don't fix it. You guys already had it set up perfect.

i agree with the sentiments shared by coug here, i enjoy shooting the shit with fellow like minded gamblers and enjoy the vast expanse PT covers. its unique in its nature.

as for those who feel like there isn't enough gambling/sports related talk here, perhaps they just aren't looking hard enough i see plenty of sports related threads. i understand yesterday was perhaps the biggest sporting day in the US, but pg. 1 was stacked from top to bottom on SB insight ranging from props, sides, everything.

i suppose since this is the direction sbr wants to go they're gonna need the face of sbr to get engaged in the saloon as paver mentioned. right now it just seems like a graveyard for threads that no longer fit the criteria of PT.
