Man I could probably do a top 100 list without too much of a problem but my top 3 would have to look like this:
Shawshank Redemption
Gladiator
A Few Good Men

this is a great list. I am surprised not too many people listing any of the great classics. And this is difficult to do when not given a specific genre. I am a fan of many of the 40 and 50's film noir. So many great flicks, also enjoy TCM.

Glad to see Forest Gump getting some love. I can watch that movie 10 times a year. Empire strikes back belongs in here somewhere too.

The more I think about this question I realize it is almost impossible to answer. However, imo it is difficult to leave out God Father 1 and 2 in any serious discussion. Of course it is all taste, right? A historically significant flick that I have not seen mentioned is Bonnie and Clyde. One wouldn't consider this ground breaking today but at the time it was the first or one of the first movies to show extreme bloody violence close up. The viewer thought he might be watching a comedy until a store keeper gets shot in the face very close up. It was a shocker at that time in history. Also a good movie.

I second the Bonnie and Clyde pick. The fast paced editing/eye-line shot cuts in the ending scene changed the future of movies as we know them.
No more of that talk, or I'll put the leeches on you.
