My Dad just talked to him yesterday. He lives in Philly. Told me his pipes was frozen saturday night so he turned his home heat all the way up and they thawed over night. Just go into a bedroom close the door and open a window so you won't sweat.

We always searched out the frozen area by digging it was a real PITA. In retrospect I think waiting it out has its merits. But most of the freezes were during prolonged cold stretches and I tell you this, being without water is tougher than being without electricity. Witness the ice storm a couple of years ago. Power lines went down everywhere but when the water stopped working, everything stopped until the National Guard sent massive generators to get the pumps going.

If it's near your house I'd give waiting a day or so if feasible.

Pipes should show no ill effects.
