You know what's funny? Shams always makes a post...then edits it to add a dig on me into the end. Seriously. He does this every other post. Go back and look. Those ones at the end? After thoughts that I'm sure he high fived himself for thinking up and thinks no one noticed him adding it later.

In his defense, he does sometimes go back and quote other posts directed at him and paste them in his other comment in order to prevent oversaturating the thread with his comments.

I'm talking specifically about the one I quoted and the on a few pages back when he went back in and added that I'm an e-slut (then was so proud that he had to call me one again a few posts later). I've caught it more times, but I can't remember the exact posts.

I wasn't saying that he doesn't go back and edit a post in order to insult you. That seems up his alley. I was just saying that the times I have noticed, he was being courteous by refraining from flooding the entire page with responses. As you know from my anal retentive ways at AIC, 15 comments in a row from one person drives me absolutely nuts...especially when they are quoted from a quote that was quoted from another quote. It makes me angry just thinking about it!

LOL...I know. I wasn't talking about the posts that quotes are added into. I get that...even if I don't get why you can't complete the post before you post it.
I actually need to learn how to do that here...but I'm too lazy.

Is anyone else confused by the meaning of "seriously", or is that just Shamsy.
Let me put this simply like I did on my MySpace page:
Always assume I'm being sarcastic, UNLESS DIRECTED OTHERWISE. Using the word "seriously" would be a direction otherwise.

Haha! I think that you are my new best friend.
The thing about my taste in ANYTHING (movies, music, etc) is that I am allllll over the freaking place. I am a singer (no, not a person who thinks they can sing...but someone who makes money doing so), so I find many different genres acceptable and pleasing to listen to. Not that I am defending my taste, but Buble...love his voice. Coldplay...it's just not normal to dislike them. Snow Patrol...Run is one of the best songs out there, but I agree that some of their other stuff is a little faggy. Pink...well, that was from a few years ago, I don't listen to her anymore, I should probably take a better look at my list and edit it accordingly. And Evanescence...helloooooo, Amy Lee is an incredible vocalist, you ding dong!
As for the other bands you mentioned, I am going to need to check them out. You seem to have pretty similar taste to my own.
I can understand your musical tastes running the gamut. My wife is a huge Margot & the Nuclear So & So's fan, loves most of the indie/alternative/rock stuff that I love, and yet also loves a bunch of music that I would consider cheese. If I'm (for whatever reason) driving her car instead of mine, I immediately turn the volume down before I can hear what's playing, then insert my own discs into her changer.
That said, she's turned me on to Eva Cassidy, Regina Spektor and quite a few other great female vocalists that I never would have given a chance (like you, she sings--I play guitar, she plays keyboard--we're like the band Mates of State only we don't suck)...
OK, so this should be its own thread but here goes:
Music recs based on your music tastes:
If you like:
Margot & The Nuclear So & Sos--- check out www.prayersandtears.com and you can get free dl's of stuff by the band Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers. I'd recommend clicking on the Music tab, then scrolling all the way down and dl'ing "On the Occasion of a Departure" and "Against Pollution (Mountain Goats cover)" from the "Extra Downloadable Music" section. then scroll up towards the top, kind of in the middle, and download the entire "Psalterie" album. "Saving Since September" and "On the Occasion of a Departure are my faves off that album, but the entire thing is nice and chill (and again, it's all FREE dl's from their official site).
Sufjan Stevens (but only some of his stuff---primarily John Wayne Gacy and Concerning the UFO off of "Come on, Feel the Illinois" as a starting point
Beach House-- Sounds exactly like you would expect from a band named Beach House.
If you like Sigur Ros: Air, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium (Copia was probably my favorite album of the last year and I probably listened to it 1,100 times while studying for MBA shit and capping games), Bjork (though I see you already have her listed) are all in the same vein, though none is quite as brilliant as Sigur Ros. If you listen to Air, start with Talkie Walkie and the song "Venus"... Mind-blowingly beautiful. Basically, all of this is great music to have on in the background at any time. Not party tunes, though Sigur Ros, Air and Eluvium all work pretty well in the bedroom (for the obvious, naughtier reasons and for actually falling to sleep with music on).
If you like Radiohead: well, you're f*cked. there's nobody quite like Radiohead. Maybe Pulp, Blur, The Verve... I dunno. I don't want to compare anyone to Radiohead.
Finally, just a random sampling of bands that should be listened to. Just brilliant bands:
Okkervil River (Black Sheep Boy and The Stage Names are two of the most perfect albums ever). Below is a link to one of their live shows in Amsterdam (video version): http://www.fabchannel.com/okkervil_river_concert
Just kind of hop around between songs. "For Real" is a real hard rocking song, while "Girl in Port" is a beautiful ballad about girls (not groupies, but more Band-Aids a la Penny Lane) on the road. "Unless it's Kicks" is about fans' obsession with "mid-level" bands and how appreciative the bands (or at least , THIS band) is. But then, there's the song, "Some Back Now, I Am Waiting" (mislabeled as So Come Back Down Now) on the video, which is just f*cking epic, especially in the context of the album's themes ( the album Black Sheep Boy is loosely based on the life on tragic folk singer-songwriter legend Tim Hardin). If you want to dl any of their live shows (audio) go to www.downtheoubliette.com. They have 50 or so shows for dl. Okkervil's sister band/side project Shearwater is a very cool band and is quite similar to the Margot type bands.
If you're looking for more transcendent rock/alternative stuff, then Broken Social Scene is a good start. They are a super-group of Canadian musicians that includes Feist--yes the Feist that sings that 1-2-3-4 Itunes song that quickly became annoying--, Emily Haines from the band Metric--think revised, updated Blondie, but maybe even sexier and more sultry lyrics-- and a host of other musicians that have other projects. British Sea Power and Arcade Fire are two of the better bands around and both rock, but not in the traditional way. Probably two of the better live bands around... Band of Horses, Stars are both great bands... The New Pornographers are another so-called super-group, comprised of A.C. Newman, Dan Bejar (the excellent man behind the group--actually just Bejar--called Destroyer), Neko Case (who released one of the better albums of 2005 or 2006 called "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood")... I could go on and on here...
If you like singer-songwriters in the Elliott Smith (the dude that wrote virtually the entire soundtrack for Good Will Hunting then killed himself by stabbing himself in the heart with a knife during an argument with his girlfriend), Ryan Adams (not Bryan Adams but the lead singer from Whiskeytown) and Damien Rice, then I'd recommend M. Ward's "Post War", Andrew Bird's "The Mysterious Production of Eggs", Bob Schneider (excellent Austin singer-songwriter perhaps best known as Sandra Bullock's old flame, though he is an Austin legend and lyrical pimp--for live show dl's go to archive.org... Actually, that site has Ryan Adams, Andrew Bird, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Elliott Smith, and a whole ton of other good stuff. Just browse the live music archive on the front page. Great site for legal live dl's of shows...
Again, I could go on and on... Fields, The Frames are both excellent bands that I've seen live recently. If you've seen the movie "Once" (one of the best films of 2007) then you probably are in love with the soundtrack. The lead singer of The Frames (Glen Hansard) is the star of that film and is an Irish singer-songwriter. The Frames is a little more rock-driven, but very, very melodic and just sweet. The album "Burn the Maps" is flat out remarkable. I defy anyone to listen to that album and not fall in love with it. Swell Season is a side project of Hansard's and is comprised of him and the girl from "Once", Marketa Irglova. Swell Season is more singer-songwriter, piano and guitar stuff.
Oh yeah, The National is another fantastic band that's getting a lot of press lately. I would recommend starting with "Alligator" but the critics were all up on their nutsacks for "Boxer" released last year and making numerous top-10 end of year lists...
Seriously, anyone want to talk music on here and I'm your guy.
P.S. The Who may be the greatest band ever, but throw in some Jimi, The Doors, Pearl Jam, Zep, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Okkervil River (for me at least), Beatles, Stones, My Bloody Valentiine, Neutral Milk Hotel... Really, I've gotta stop now. I'm going to go play my Apple TV on random, pour a stiff Oban on the rocks, and just sit and listen in bliss (I say that, and I'll probably be patiently waiting for music banter on these boards so I can chime in).

Oh and Robyn,
The "I'm F*cking Matt Damon" skit that Silverman did is probably the single funniest thing I've ever seen or heard. It makes "Dick in a Box" look tame and completely devoid of creativity (and I LOVE "Dick in a Box' so that's saying something).
For the uninitiated, youtube search "Silverman Damon" or even "Fu cking Matt Damon"... You'd have to know the entire backstory behond Kimmel and Damon to fully "get" it, but it's pretty damn funny in its own right. Kimmel's comeback was pretty F*cking funny in its own right, but Silverman came up with the idea and knocked it out of the park.

I try to keep a low profile around here and generally stick to the individual sports capping threads. I think I chimed in on a couple threads on the Players Talk page, specifically the thread about NFL cheerleaders, where I basically warned against love of NFL cheerleaders (I was married to a Cowboy cheerleader and the marriage was like a horrible yearlong episode of "Melrose Place"--just drama, drama, drama). And I think I've ragged on JJ a few times. Other than that, I stick to my sports threads for the most part. But yeah, I'm always good for music recs, film recs (I was a hired screenwriter as lately as 2006, though I wasn't particularly good), or book recs (was English major at UT and am a confessed book nut). I'll try to be around the main page a little more often post-NCAA tourney, when I only have to worry about baseball.
EDIT: I added the bit about Jimmy's follow up (in my original "F*cking Matt Damon post) before reading your post... Yes, it's sheer genius all around. I'd love to hang out with Kimmel and Silverman on a daily basis, getting drunk and just watching them be brilliantly hilarious.

Yes, PM me when you listen to some of it and give me your thoughts. I can literally rattle off about 500 "Must-hear" bands, including about 50 from Austin. Music is one of my passions, so it's easy for me to rant about. I need to get a firm grasp on that whole brevity thing.
