is it wrong to play poker at the same table as your friends?
So is this acceptable or not?

I say no, because taking a buddy's money is wrong, and splitting the money would land you in jail.

    He thinks its perfectly acceptable.

Why is it wrong? If you play enough poker you will be seated with friends at the same table. As rake mentioned, as long as there is no collusion then I don't see a problem with it. Also, if someone is playing poker for real money they should have an expectation they may leave the table empty handed.

it is acceptable, however if you've seen anything to make you believe they may be jamming the table then tell a floor person, they will keep an eye on them and if they suspect anything they will usually do nothing till they believe it to be 100%, at that time depending on the place either a suspesion, expelled or a warning.

I don't like either of the poll options. It's perfectly acceptable so long as there is no collusion or splitting of profits. I only play poker if I have a buddy at the table as well to help pass the time. There's no collusion, but if we're heads up in a pot we'll generally check it down. Even in a whole night of poker it's rare to play more than a couple heads up pots, anyways.

            Lame plays on your friend:
            1) everyone folds, you're in the small blind, and raise when it's his big blind. Come on now.
            2) Check raising your friend when you hit your dream card on the river

Legit plays w/ your friend at the table:
            1) He limps in, you raise behind him with a good hand - you still gotta make everyone else pay to see the flop, your friend included.
            2) Anything so long as someone else is still in the hand!

I didn't vote on the poll because there aren't enough details behind why the friends are playing together.

If friends are at the same table and colluding that is obviously wrong. However, if they are just screwing around and having a good time then it's fine to have friends at the table.

What's wrong. I sat with 5 of my friends at a Seneca Niagara 5 10 game. We were there for a birthday party and did our fair share of drinking. There was no collusion going on so it was all ok as far as I am concerned.

I have sat and played cards with 4 carloads of friends at the drive in. What does it matter?

If me and another person were colluding, signalling etc then it's wrong. Mind you I think it's human nature to NOT play your buddy as hard as you might a stranger but you really shouldn't.

i think its ok, just realize that if it comes down to you and your friend there is no reason to bet into him if he is acting like he has a hand. Check out and see who wins.

I think it's more fun to have friends with you to talk to and pass time while playing. NO CHEATING ALLOWED!
