How much does casino sports oddsmakers make?
This just popped into my head as I was talking to a buddy. I mean they're the guys that bring in the business, so out of sheer curiosity, just wondering how much you guys think they make?

How much you can earn: The salary for a midlevel Oddsmaker is around $60,000, while the lead oddsmaker at a casino can make in the low six figures.

So why wouldn't they just bet the games themselves if they're the ones setting the lines? I'm assuming they're not allowed to right?

the lines are created to entice action on both sides and not to be a true representation of how much better one team is from another. the closer the book can get the action on both sides the happier they are.

                  Half that in Costa Rica.

DonBest along with Pinny, BetFair, Matchbook and CRIS pretty much ruined the profession, at least for the very good bookmakers.

It's still a profession but you do not need to be pouring over research. Instead you watch a screen and your inflow and stay in the middle of the pack if you want to keep your job.

I guess what I meant to ask was on the folks that actually make the opening lines - who actually makes them for the books taking action? I understand there are robots watching in/outflow, but where are the good books getting their info (Pinny, Bookmaker)?

The SBR Book oddsmakers make more than the ones in Vegas.

                          Interesting points.

I remember about 15 years ago, Michael Roxborough visited Woodbine Racetrack to share handicapping perspectives on betting horses. It was good to hear him speak and he is definitely a "numbers" guy as most of us would expect. Many a time when I would be reading a local Toronto paper I would look for his syndicated column called the "Roxy Line" to get a beat on the latest NFL spreads. Not sure where he is now but I'm sure he did well for himself 'back in the day'.

Doubtful. I know of 3 in Vegas who all earn mid 6 figures as book directors.

Yeah but do they get unlimited points to play with in Vegas?
