After this game was over, I was confused listening to the annoucers, as I didn't see what they saw in this game. Touting the great Tarheels defense for this win seemed inaccurate to me, as duke appeared to just give the game away in the first half. The turnover were mostly unforced and Duke seemed to be playing nervously. They came back and recovered well in the second half, leading me to think they are the better team overall. Although, I do credit UNC with great defense in the last 5 minutes and the game was well-officiated.

Huge Duke fan are we Nancy? Carolina is the better team, and frankly I don't even think it's close. I think North Carolina is one of the two best teams in the country while Duke may not even be in the top 10, regardless of what rankings say.Comment -

Tyler would get the ball down low, then get doubled up and he would turn into it and throw some nonsense into the arms of whomever was covering him. he was lame most of the game, and didn't get any calls, but UNC still won.

It's to a point where I want to put games on mute when Vitale talks anymore because alot of what he says just doesn't make sense.

sometimes you just have to have a good time and debate a bit. Were they the same team? eh, they played better in the second half but UNC was up 11, did you expect the heels to come out as fired up in half #2? everyone in the world knew Duke would make a run. at the end of the day duke entered the 2nd half down 11 and left the game down 8. they won the second half by 3 with all of that amazing effort.

In watching the first half of this game, the Devils were down, in my opinion, not because of the stellar play of the Heels, but moreso because of their own errors. They were lucky to only be down by 11, as their first-half play was sloppy.
And yes, with Duke/Carolina - and with Carolina's players/staff fully aware that Duke did not play their bet first-half, I would expect the Heels to be equally if not more fired up for the second half than the first. But, hey, it was just the No. 1 bid in the East and regular season championship on the line - who gets fired up for that

Have you ever watched Carolina/Duke basketball? This rivalry never lets up regardless of the score. It is rabid from the first tick of the clock til the last in every meeting I have seen - and I have been at the media table to see it in action.

Even if UNC is up 53 on a team at halftime he (WIlliams) is going to prepare them (UNC) for a battle in the 2nd half. He'll never have a halftime where he says 'no worries boys, this one is in the bag'. Whether he believed duke was going to make a run or not, he would have prepared his team to play the best 2nd half possible. So, your point doesn't have quite as much 'umpf' as im sure you were hoping.
Why do you think home court matters? is it because you use different size hoops in each arena or is it, perhaps, because the fans get your team more fired up while each team shoots into regulation sized basketball hoops? When you're down you're going to come out more fired up than the team thats up. Thats just human nature. There isn't a person on this forum that figured UNC would win the game by 27 points.
No, ive never seen UNC/Duke play before, but i did win money on the Tarheels playing the bums in Durham. Easy win for a team that didn't even start their 2nd best player, pg Ty lawson.

I disagree. I think that Duke came out in the first half over-hyped to play this game. home court crowd, reg. season title, NCAA bid, senior night. The senior on the team played the worst of anyone, proving you can be "up" too much for a game and end up playing poorly.
And, as I said, I have never seen these two teams play each other and not be sky-high to do so. Players live for this particular confrontation - it is one of the best rivalries in sports, IMHO.

They've lost at home to UNC 3 years in a row now....wouldn't you think coach K could 'un-hype' his kids a bit. I know that during the telecast they said that Paulus was so hyped in his first unc/duke home game that he had to rest before the game even started. They went on to say that he learned from that and is now better prepared for these games. Maybe paulus didn't share his secrets with everyone else and they were overhyped and he wasn't, so he was good and the other guys didn't know what was happening? are you saying Paulus isn't a good team guy? wow, thats quite a statement, Nance.
Na, too much to analyze it seems. This game is unlike any other. kids get excited for this game and can't control it in the first half, but they can in the 2nd, but only the home team can't in the first, but the road team doesn't get as hyped, but they should be just as fired up to start the 2nd half even when they're up 11 against a team that has a pg that doesn't tell his teamates how to settle down and rock out to wins.

2) UNC was not nearly as up for the 2nd, thats why Duke got 6 offensive boards in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd. its not as if they put in their secret big men, they just wanted it more. Thats not an opinion.

Definitely agree with you UNC being one of two best teams in the country. I have always liked Duke but UNC this year has just dominated their opponents. Its amazing how they seem to always find a way to win, I especially loved that come back win over Boston College. I remember they were down 14 and half and they were favored to win by 11 I said to myself, wow a 25-0 is possability as they are a great 2nd half team be interesting if they make that much of a turnaround, as I was confident they would win just figured it would be alot closer. They didnt cover but a 10 point win was amazing to see how they just kept fighting and fighting and found a way to score points and locked up on D. For me personally UNC has been alot of fun to watch and look forward to them in the tournament.

Did you see my thread about that thegreatdiatchi? It was hilarious as Dick Vitale made the a comment to the effect of ,"this Duke possession is critical to what they do in this game/or year something like that" and as he was saying it, Duke guard got it swatted away by UNC where they promptly went down the court for a layup which was missed, but followed an offensive rebound and scored another easy basket.
Talk about perfect timing.
Duke is always scary in the tournment but what I have seen this year in my opinion depending on when you watch them they are like a night and day team too risky. I say that now, but depending on their seeding they might have some easy matchups
