My father teaching me how to hit, he tried teaching me to hit right handed and then I protested and felt more comfortable as a lefty, even though I throw with my right hand and catch with my left.

First game - a Yankee game i'm sure.

he should have made you left handed. you'd be a millionaire, or at least you'd have a 50/50 shot.

Anybody here have a father or parent that was really hard on them in sports? I mean, I was just never as good as my dad was, he was a pretty decent athlete and won some awards with track. I was a very talented second baseman, and felt I had good form in my swing but never connected with the ball as much as some other kids. I could always knock them out of the park in practice but sadly choke under pressure. I was always tall for my age though and had a great eye for when not to swing so I did get on base a lot.

a pal of mines father was insane. he used to make him wear an old glove (one of the ones that had individual fingers) because he said it would make him a better player. not only was he awful, but his dad yelled at him the entire practice and game.

ace an serve and the ball bounced and hit the opponent in the nuts. 15-0

that is the oldest memory in sports.

                                Playing:

My father teaching me to throw baseballs through a hanging tire swing.

                                Watching:

Going with my Grandfather to see the 49ers at Kezar (about 1970).

I also have a great clear memory of my father running into the house, saying "Turn on the TV; they're going to have pro football games on Mondays now!"

(By the way, it was September 21, 1970, between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, and the Browns won 31-21.)

                                Yes. I'm old.

I think the first time I heard the word f\/ck was when my father said something to the effect, "I can't believe the f\/ckin' Yankees won again" after the 1956 World Series.

The first professional sports event I can remember going to was in 1962, Colt 45s vs. the Giants. Saw four future Hall of Famers in that game, all wearing San Fran jerseys.

Outside of sandlot games I played in before then, my earliest memory of me playing organized sports would've been the same year, 1962. Little League tryouts. I was so intent on showing off my catching skills that I wore a cup...only without one of those special supporters that would hold the cup in place. You got 10 swings as a batter, and on your 10th you were supposed to circle the bases. About the time my slow ass rounded first, the cup slid down and out the bottom of my jeans. Quite embarrassing actually, but I was behind the plate for the Crickets on Opening Day in full catcher gear

Being the biggest underdog in the playoffs in AA ball. We started playing better late in the year, but still were in last place. I moved from SS to pitcher and we won the hole thing. When i reached maximum innings I caught, it was alot of fun. Being on the mound striking out the last few hitters was a great feeling. I can remember the last batter was a friend of mine and he fouled off like 10 str8 pitches after a 3 and 2 count with 2 outs in the last inning. Also hit a HR in that game. From there on out I pitched all the way threw high school. God I miss those days!
