    Hillary wants to censor internet

She wants an "editing function" so that the Net becomes as lifeless and gutless as the mainstream print media.

Sure, there are defamations on the Net, and a lot of unadorned bull.

But, as the Founding Fathers figured, when all the words and charges are allow to be freely tossed, the people (enough of them, anyway) will most often see through the con games and decide right.

    Not always, but usually.

But Hillary will change that. She and her friends want to "edit" the Net,so no one can say mean things about --- well, about the Clintons!

Odd that someone like Coach Hank, whose life seems so dependent on an uncensored Net, would be such a big supporter of a war-loving and censorship-favoring pol like Hil.

Title should have read: HILLARY WANTS TO CENSOR INTERNET.

Edit function doesn't seem to allow the editing of titles. Maybe a Mod can fix

She never said that. You must be a right wing conservative. Typical. I may also point out that it was over 2 years ago when that conversation was taken and there is a check and balance now- caselaw that states if you slander someone online you pay the price in the civil courts. Now go rearrange that swastika above your door as you go vote republican.

I don't like Hillary Clinton's views, in general, and I don't believe she actually believes the following quote, but I do agree with it from the article.

But I do think we always have to keep competing interests in balance. I'm a big pro-balance person. That's why I love the founders -- checks and balances; accountable power. Anytime an individual or an institution or an invention leaps so far out ahead of that balance and throws a system, whatever it might be -- political, economic, technological --out of balance, you've got a problem, because then it can lead to the oppression people's rights, it can lead to the manipulation of information, it can lead to all kinds of bad outcomes which we have seen historically.

Look at Reagan and Bill Clinton. Both presidents are looked up to overall from their side of the aisle. What do they have in common? The other party was running the Congress for the majority of their terms. Look at Jimmy Carter and George W Bush. They had the whole enchilada with the same party running their congresses and their reigns in the White House are not viewed as even close to be successful as Reagan and Clinton.

If a democrat gets voted in, it will not last for long because they are going to go full throttle with their agenda like they did in 1993 when Clinton took office. What happened after that? The GOP won in overwhelming fashion in 1994, just like the Democrats did in 2006 under Bush. You have to have one side watching the other to make our government work sufficiently.

If she "never said that" can we conclude that she has filed against the outlet that so reported? If so, cite the site.

It's good that defamation on the Net is subject to the same laws as it would be for print or broadcast. (And beware, your last sentence could make you liable! Don't lose all your money betting, I may be entitled to a portion!)

However, the courts have rules that libel should be more loosely applied when it comes to prominent public figures, ie politicians. Oherwise, those creeps would be running to the courts every time someone was harshly critical of theml

BTW,the only Republican I'd support is Ron Paul. But he's fighting for last place with Guiliani. Americans have forgotten that we're fighting two ultimately hopeless wars.

Both Hillary and McCain are unrepentent warmongers, who envisage the US staying in Iraq and Afghanistan for 50-100 years. At least McCain is honest enough to so state. Hillary the Hawk, who urged her husband to bomb the Balkans 10 years ago and was Bush's biggest Iraq cheerleader before tossing her pantssuit into the race for Prez, is masking herself as a dove.

Yeah, she really comes out strong in favor of censorship:

REPORTER: Sounds like you favor regulation.

MRS. CLINTON: Bill, I don't know what -- that's why I said I don't know what I'm in favor of. And I don't know enough to know what to be in favor of, because I think it's one of those new issues we've got to address. We've got to see whether our existing laws protect people's right of privacy, protect them against defamation. And if they can, how do you do that when you can press a button and you can't take it back. So I think we have to tread carefully.
Three times 'I don't know' in a row.

But let's put the words in her mouth anyway.

I imagine it really works on her when people can go to Google and type in a string of words like Bill Clinton-blow job-intern whale-*** stain-socialist-murderer-traitor-Hillary-phoney-pink sweater -vast right wing conspiracy-cattle futures fraud-communist carpet muncher-fur trader ,daughter chelsea-carrot top-pippy long stockings and get a few million hits.

I would want to regulate the internet too if I had allot to be ashamed of.

Hillary trying to regulate the internet is the same as if Linda Lovelace when she was living would have tried to ban the sale of all DVD and VCR players.

That ain't good polit 'capping, DH.

When a politician says "I don't know" on a clear issue of censorship, then he or she is in favor of it, just not willing to take a clear position due to the polit harm they'd inflict on themselves by so stating.

It was only the Internet that reported accurately the facts about the fake propaganda issuing from the Neocon Machine in the run-up to the Iraq invasion. The MSM failed miserably in taking Washington to task on their fantastic lies, that have put almost 4000 US soldiers in the grave, and hundred of thousands Iraqis.

The Net has a lot of faults, and has to navigated carefully. But free discussion will more often than not nail the lies to the wall.

As a good example, see how bettors who come here bitching about how a book cheated them are asked to submit rational proofs. And how the bulk of the posters who consider such evidence for or against a particular book will ususually come to the rightful conclusion. (Recently, the issue between a bettor and LazerWager, another between a lady acting as agent for a guy in Costa Rica and book in that country, and yet another between WagerWeb and a past poster - most posters on the latter issue rightly sided with the shot-taking bettor.

"I don't know" if the Net should be regulated by the Govt -- this should alarm anyone who values the freedom and unvarnished info and free inquiry that this tech advance has given us.

hmm Ron Paul. I will post his issues he has listed with agree or do not agree.

                      1) American Independence and Sovereignty- Agree

                      2)Immigration- Strongly disagree

3)Taxes-Agree(Bush is the one who ran the debt up so I have no idea why he is blaming democrats for this)

3)Education- Agree. We have Fcats in Florida. They are a waste of space. Instead of teaching the schools teach just to pass the Fcats. I transferred my kid out of an A school into a B school. Why? The A school was a joke and the B school was the highest rated in the district. However, the government rated the best school lower and gave them less money.

4)Environment- Strongly Agree. Sounds strange to hear a republican candidate talking about beating pollution. If Bush was president for life we would all be on oxygen masks before we died of old age(if we even lived that long).

5)Health Care: Agree. Our rates just went up again with lowered service and a higher deductible. When we do go in we seem to always end up owing something. Thousands of dollars out of our paycheck are going to waste for nothing.

6)Health Freedom- Agree. I personally think the FDA is bought off. Crap gets through and stuff we need and works is not approved so other countries get to profit and get the benefits but we do not.

7)Home Schooling- Disagree. There should be a set standard. You can exceed it but should at least meet a minimum requirement

8)Life and Liberty- Disagree. I am pro choice. Would I want my wife to have an abortion? Hell no. Is it my right to tell her she can't. Maybe as that is my child too. Is it my right to tell others they cannot. Hell no.

9)No tax on tips- Agree. Restaurants get away with these ridiculous $2 per hour wages and then the government taxes you on what they think you made instead of what you actually did make. In my younger years I worked as a waiter and believe me many people did not tip at all. Waiting on them cost me money.

10)Privacy and Personal Liberty- Strongly Agree. A national card is one step to dictatorship and losing all your rights. As a victim of massive ID theft I know what that is like also but anyone with a brain should be against an ID card.

11)Eminent Domain- Agree. This is one of the most ridiculous laws out there. They can come in and take your home to set up a shopping mall and you get paid nothing compared to the value of your home. I would bet often time the idiots who take your land and home are getting kickbacks to steal from you.

12)Racism- Agree. You cannot hand out money or scholarships or anything like that based on gender or race or religion. How ridiculous is that.

13)Social Security- Agree. You are basically taxing a tax if you tax SS. I was reading an article on a town the other day. The property taxes had gone up so fast that senior citizens were losing their homes. The city came up with a grand idea. Seniors can go to work and their wages would go directly to their property taxes. WTF is that bullshit. You get to work all your life and when you retire we make you work again so you can keep all you worked for. BS.

                      14)Inflation Tax- Agree

15)Second Amendment- Disagree. Why the hell would you need an assault gun?

16)War) Agree. The war is a joke and everybody knows it. The world hates us including our allies and you can place this squarely on Bush.

I like Ron Paul but would never vote for him because of his views on immigration and I was born and raised in Illinois so there is nothing foreign about me(other than the fact we all came from somewhere else except for the Native Americans). If you throw out millions of people the economy will collapse and families will be torn apart. Not only would you have the sudden loss of millions of jobs that nobody really wants but the countries they go back to will be so inundated their economies would collapse.

                                Some interesting and amusing responses!

It's why the Net should NEVER be censored (tho legal punishments for outright and clear defamation should rightly be in place). The media for centuries pretended that only they and their handpicked and mostly housebroken "journalists" had the right to a public soapbox.

Net has proved that a helluva lot of intelligent folk have valid views, and the ability to express same.

I'm not at all dismayed over the ongoing and increasing problems that the nation's print media is experiencing. Their slavish parroting of the Neocon line in the run-up to the Iraq disaster proved their irrelevance.

(There are some excellent mainstream investigative journalists. Not so much for newspapers anymore, but other print media: Sy Hersh on the Bush plots in the Mideast are invaluable - and he writes for a city magazine.)

It's why I really like craig's list. I haven't done well selling stuff there, but its great in that it's helping to drive America's dailies to the wall. (By destroying the viabiility of their once hugely profitable classified ads.)

I look at dalies like WSJ (editorial page), and Union-Tribune in San Diego, NY Times in NYC, and know full will that these sheets are useful mainly for wrapping fish.

The sad loss will be the localized dailies that sometimes (and sometimes not) do a good job on investigative local stories.

                                    PICANTEL --

Check me off also on most of your list.

Just because I critiqued a certain leading Democrat doesn't mean I got my head up the elephant's ass.

Would love to see a viable Third Party and some real choices. Which is why I would support a viable one, even if I disagree with most of thing such a candidate says. (A Draft Bloomberg organization just raised its head, but Mayor Mike won't move this election year - maybe in 2012.)

I'd differ on 2, 7 and 15. Agree on 8,but I won't dump a candidate as solid as Dr Paul just because I'm not with him on every single issue. (Heredity having won hands down the old debate between it and "environment," I'd actually encourage abortion for the stupidest and most criminally-inclined 5% of the population)

2- I know immigration, and have lived in Mexico. (With several beautiful Mexican women.) I speak and read Spanish.

Mexico is ruled by a corrupt 2 % of the population; the rest live as virtual serfs. Mexico is a phenomenally wealthy land, and an oil exporter. But while Hugo Chavez charges his people super cheap rates for Venezuela oil, in Mexico the price of gas at the state-controlled stations are higher than in super-expensive California.

The second richest man in the world (after Gates) is a Mexican.

The country is, de facto, run by drug cartels.

And Mexico protects it own borders with violent methods. Illegal crossers from places like El Salvador get beaten, robbed, raped, before being jailed or tossed back rudely across the border.

What America should do with the illegal immgrants is to train them in guerilla warfare, and return them to Mexico to overthrow the current regime. Or at least to support the "anti-amerircan" PRD, the heir to Mexico's greatest president, Lazaro Cardenas.

As Pat Buchanan has stated in his fine book on illegal immigration, American big business loves it,and is the main supporter of amnesty. "Race to the bottom . . ."

7- Home Schooling. I like it. And many honors students in HS and college are kids who were home schooled. Public school teachers and their militant unions don't like it, but who cares what entrenched bureacracies like?

15- Why would anyone need an assault rifle? For the reason that the2nd amendment was put into the Bill of Rights. To protect the citizens from oppresssive govt.

Like if Bush in the next year after a bogus Neocon-induced terror attack suspends the Constitution, and begins mass arrests. Or if President Hillary does the same in a few years.

I know as a country we would not put up with it but it would not surprise me one bit if Bush suddenly declared his the part of the constitution limiting his 'rule' was null and void and he was not giving up power. None of the other laws seem to matter so why stop now.

No to mention the whole putting words in her mouth thing.

Geez, yeah. 1998. Wow, ancient history. Why, Monica had hardly even begun giving Bill bjs in the Oval Office then.

Everyone knows that real history, modern history, didn't begin until 2005, when Ms Spears got married.
