I Think We Jumped The Gun a Litte Quixk On Jason Heward
.250
12 hrs
51 RBI's
Ok player for a rookie but way too early to call him a star

I was thinking about this the other day. Though we have seen quite a bit of good young players coming up this year it does seem the hype is a little high on most or it must be more towards the pitchers.
Best example of this is look at the Rookie of the Year guys on offense this year. Who is it going to be in the AL, Boesch? Probably Posey in NL but he doesn't have that many at-bats.
For all this hype about rookies of late it doesn't seem any are really doing anything on offense, IMO.

Jason Heyward has 152 more at bats. Two less hr's and only 12 more rbi in nearly double as many games as Stanton. I wouldn't call Jason a slouch though he will be good for many years I believe.

Reminds me of Maybin when he came up with the Tigers. A lot of hype and rushed to the pros to soon.

Stanton is the real deal. I have seen most of his games. Him or Posey should be Nl rookie of the year.

Heyward's stats took a huge hit when he played through his thumb injury for two or three weeks. He's been playing much better since coming off the DL, but he's still taking two many pitches, which is the exact opposite problem that most rookies have.

He plays for a contender. Winning games is more important than individual stats. All others you mentioned are playing for stats because their teams have folded already.

Heyward has all the tools. Those guys get a lot of chances. The streets are littered with guys like him. Big, athletic and a gun for an arm. We can all name players like him that are out of baseball by 28 years of age. He should be playing linebacker for the Rambling Wreck of GA Tech.

Hayward still kills the Reds every time Atlanta plays them. I agree, he's dropped off considerably, but I think he will continue to get better.
These are all stunningly Amazing stats for 20 year old player -
Gry nice post us there a chance you can post his numbers compared to Stanton? I am on the cell and can't do that much.
I think Stantons numbers are better than most think. Due to the fact that the Marlins are for the most part ignored nationally.

There is no way he should have been an All Star.

There's no wrong answer to this.

That's very debatable considering his stats before he injured his thumb a couple weeks before the All Star game.

I see your point completely but I do think there is a big difference between Heyward and Maybin as Maybin was more hype and Heyward has actually done some things, even more this year so far then the 4 different years Maybin had played in the majors. Unblieveably Maybin is still only 23 years old.

Stanton is just as good if not better
344 OBA
137 OPS+
10.3% BB rate
144 wRC
17.7 UZR/150
but of course Stanton has only about 1/2 the playing time Heyward has so far, and Stanton has an astronomical 34.5 k%
