    Proxy Servers
What are the good and bad of using these? Are they worth paying for?

            Pros

            • Proxy servers have the potential to accelerate publication of translated content and reduce costs by eliminating repetitive coding of static pages for each language being localized. This is particularly desirable for organizations with a widespread global footprint.
            • Organizations which require frequent website updates and continual publishing of new content stand to benefit from the automation that proxy servers can provide.
            • Proxy server solutions are becoming available in a greater variety of options, ranging from professional to open source solutions which utilize machine translation, professional translators, or a combination thereof.
            • Content is tagged for translation, allowing the flexibility to pick and choose which portions (or all) of a site are translated.

            Cons

            • Content tagged for translation is sometimes served in the source language instead. These unfortunate errors have also been known to occur with relatively static pages.
            • Credit card information from e-commerce sites and other sensitive information may become exposed to parties (the proxy server provider and its people) outside of your security procedures and control.
            • Business continuity can be a concern with proxy servers. Since they sit between end-users and your organization’s website, a potential single point of failure has been handed over to a third party.
            • Because the target language is not actually matched to the translated site until the page is requested, this means a significant response time is incurred for each page. Remember this process involves the proxy server opening each page and at run-time replacing the translated text. This creates delays in serving the content. Analysis of sites that use a proxy-type solution prove this point. For example, one site analyzed with Webmetrics revealed a Spanish load time almost seven times that of English. This is a direct result of the proxy server and the translation matching process that has to be done at runtime. This can seriously detract from a user’s experience.
            • Web developers must devote time “tagging” source pages so the proxy server knows which content to translate.

Depends on why you want to use one.

You can still be tracked down using a proxy, especially a free one if the intent is to access Internet anonymously. It's good for some purposes.

If you really need to be secure, some tech. expertise using encryption and an out of country server (can't be supeoned) would do the job and YES cost money. Find a real techie person with network experience for best advice.

i think the better question here is, what are you doing that you need a proxy for?

seriously though. the average 'joe bag of donuts' doesn't need a proxy. just curious as to what you need it for.

                                  pros:
you can hide your identity to post at websites that you get banned at
you can hide your identity to gamble at non friendly to USA books

                                  cons:
                                  slower
takes up to a minute sometimes to get logged in or configure your browser

i use newipnow. it costs something like 3 bucks a month and you can choose from about 15 ips to go through.

i just use it to access my pinnys but im sure it can help you with your needs.

                                    well worth the price.
