Apparently, there are about 30 grounds and other locations with big screens setup and they think there is about 250k people who have turned out to watch this match 'live'.

Tournament has been a big success crowd support wise. I wasn't so sure it would not be a flop and crowds would not come out for women before this started.

2H underway… still 0-0 so it’s time for Australia to take the lead.

My guess is next World Cup the USWNT will be more focused on soccer...

I don't know. I bet on Sweden to advance.

    Maybe the over?

I'll take Aussies to advance probably. But just as a homer bet.

Opti, go back in history. Remember the 2002 (men's) World Cup?

There's no question in my mind that South Korea bought the ref for the matches vs Spain/Italy. Ridiculous.

Yeah I recall it pretty well.

Spain has always been crybabies about losing when not supposed to. And maybe one of the most racist places on earth.

They (and the Europe power houses in general) just could not stand for an Asian team beating them or going deep at all.

After all they had made it near impossible to qualify through Asia for decades and now out of the goodness of their hearts making the qualifications a little bit less unbalanced an upstart was daring to beat every team they played.

You'd have to think they bought the ref in about 5 matches they had "no hope" of winning pre tourney to believe that story Chucky.

As I recall it was a dirty third world Muslim country ref in that match as the main reason for the Spanish bleating.

Sth Korea were inspiring that year. Did not lose a match until the Semi I think.

Why are you bringing it up? Thinking the refs favoring the home team?

No, I don't think there was any parallel. Actually, it was a bad analogy.

I do think historically in the Men's World Cup, the host nation gets every advantage on trying to advance. Re, South Korea:
    1) The Koreans played well in the group stage. They drew vs USA, 1-1 in a great match. And they knocked out Portugal 1-0 when the Portuguese players went crazy on Red-card tackles.
    2) No ref advantage in the Koreans advancing out of the Group.

I'm telling you, watch the tape of SoKor vs SPA and SoKor vs ITA. The ref was bought:
*Spain crosses that look like they might be goals. Offsides flag goes up.
*Versus Italy, the Koreans flew in with scissor-kicks, no problems. Totti got nudged in the box and went down, TOTTI was the player sent off for diving.

I'll post a video. I'm convinced that the Koreans had those two games gift-wrapped to them.

Opti, see the above. I agree with the poster. Those two games were jokes:

*Vieri/Morientes kept scoring goals, and the refs scrubbed em out.

In any fair world, Italy would have beat the Koreans. Same for Spain, win was stolen.
