      • Jul 11, 2023, 09:43 PM ET

LAS VEGAS -- The NBA's board of governors approved two rule changes that will go into effect next season -- a second coach's challenge if the first one is successful and an in-game flopping penalty -- at its annual meeting during the Las Vegas Summer League on Tuesday.

Flopping has always occured in the NBA, the only difference is now you have hi def with 10 different angles instead of two. I remember the first time I watched an NBA game from the third row (1993); Nate McMillan pulled a superb flop augmented by a loud AAAGHHH right in front of the ref and drew an offensive foul.

In any sport there should be unlimited challenges until you're wrong twice. Then you can't challenge any more.

Dumbest rule in all sports.. .

If they make 10 mistakes, I should be able to challenge 10x

And go to video review 10x? That's 20mins of your life you wont get back. Also, it comes at the expense of game flow. Shooters can lose their rhythm. Players that are tired get to rest a bit. It penetrates with the game and the viewing experience.

The flopping rule change is worse. Another one in the eye for defensive players. Is it a tech if the ref deems it a flop? On the say-so of a ref? Players get fined for techs don't they? So if you connect the dots the NBA is literally going to fine players for playing defense this season. If a player comes steaming through the lane just jump out of his way and save yourself some money... and pain.

Don't get me started on the in-season cup.
