    Giants-Packers ending

Why are they taking a quick knee? They can't run clock out. Dummies.

    Let's see...

Taking a safety would be perfect for me.

10 seconds. They should run around and take a safety.

That takes it to 5 or 6 seconds. Then free kick will either end it or they'll have one play 70 yards out.

One try for Rodgers. Wouldn't be if Daboll wasn't stupid.

Live stuff. I covered some NY with Pack +6.5. Also had some middled 47.5/49.5. Finally a lucky one works for me, unless they score now.

    d2bets runs so good

yes, that was absolutely silly to take a knee... just run it up the middle and waste more clock, odds of getting a first down and ending the game are way more than the odds of fumbling

That and maybe get a first down to end it. Victory formation is for a victory. First kneel he didn't even try to take extra time.

Daboll in running for Coach of the Year. Props to Jones et al. Giants won w/ several key injuries.

Maybe he's a good pre-game tactician, but his in-game coaching is atrocious, but hasn't cost them too much yet.

I'll keep my eye open. Of course, I whiffed on this game, so maybe I'm biased.

He won a game with the less talented personnel and a roster that was dealing w/ several WR/DB injuries. I give him credit for that.

I'm not sure he got the end-game wrong, other than telling Jones to bleed more time. The intentional safety is an under-used strategy, IMHO.

the intentional safety is fine, gives 20 more yds and better punt coverage

d2bets and i are questioning the 3 straight kneel downs, those were downright stupid... they could've just handed it to barkley 3 times and gotten in a better position while wasting more time

OK. I do think coaches are very adverse to the ball-handling. If it's a matter of:
    a) 3 handoffs that likely kill off the clock, or
    b) 3 kneel-downs, an INT safety, and surviving L10 seconds after kickoff.

I think they opt for B.

but it's not "that" A or B decision... it was
    A) hand the ball of to barkley 3 times
    B) kneel down 3 times

if the result of A is a first down then you kneel down... if not then you can still take the safety, and the entire clock would probably be gone

adverse to ball-handling in that situation is stupid, the chances of a bad snap on the punt are way worse... if your ONLY goal is ball control then it shouldn't be too difficult to hold onto it

Not just that. ON the very first kneel. He went straight to kneel. They did the math wrong. They thought it was over. It was on the 2nd kneel that he extended the kneel as far as he could. On the 1st down kneel either the coach or the QB didn't understand the situation. That's on the coach.

I understand what you're saying. Yes, need to coach that.

There was a WISC/NWern game from some years ago. Alvarez badly mis-managed the endgame. They thought it was effectively over. Botched it, and NWern won on a late TD pass.

that was in 1996, and it was the week after alvarez made some horrible play calls at the end of a loss to ohio state... back-back weeks

with alvarez' history (vegas game with "pulled plug" where alvarez refused to play the rest... and the infamous 59-0 loss to ohio st as a favorite to get ohio st into the playoff) who the heck knows why he did some things
