Looks Like The Red Sox And Giants Are Going To Be Sellers

Red Sox are shopping JD Martinez and Christian Vazquez around. Both Martinez and Vazquez are free agents after the year, so it would seem natural that the Red Sox would first look to move these shorter-term players with the deadline looming. Other pending free agents include Jackie Bradley Jr. (whose mutual option for 2023 is likely to be declined), several injured players like Rich Hill, Michael Wacha, Enrique Hernandez, and Matt Strahm, plus the potential biggest trade chip of starter Nathan Eovaldi.

Giants could be shopping Rodon and Longoria. Since Longoria has already started fielding drills is expected back in the first week or two of August, another team could take a flier on a veteran who has still quite well when healthy.

Might end up being a buyer's market with more sellers. Not that many trades yet.

I'm starting to think Juan Soto is going to stay with the Nationals past the deadline. Only teams I can see trading for him are the Cardinals and the Padres. The Rays told them to shove it, and went ahead and traded for Peralta. The Mariners gave up their draft capital for Castillo. The Cardinals are normally pretty frugal with their guys, and I think they eventually would be against practically wiping their farm system out for one player. There is a reason why they have continued to win for such a long time. The Padres look like the best bet, but Preller officially puts his ass on the line if it bombs after all of his other trades haven't really produced success.

With the additional players potentially being on the trade market, we'll probably see buyers go for the rentals because it causes much less hurt to their farm systems.

J.D. Martinez is 1 for his last 38. No more power either. He is done.

I hope Mets make the move to get JD Martinez, he will fit in well. He can hit and works the count. I want to see that trade.

Yeah, I made mention in a thread at the AS Break the Sox only had a 25 percent chance of making the postseason but the books were offering even money. Someone was asleep at the wheel there, even the die hard Townies knew they weren't going anywhere after the break.

Red Sox have a penchant for overpaying star talent, which always seems to come back and bite them on the ass.

Look at Chris Sale's contract for instance, they overpaid for him, which really restricts the cap room, gets injured, but still have to pay Sale because of contract stipulations, like guaranteed money on a five year extension signed in 2020.

So now they have to pay a pitcher that can't pitch, and as a result couldn't pay Mookie, they had to obtain Trevor Story because there's a good chance the Sox can't meet Xander's asking price, and on, and on.

I don't know if Henry, or Bloom, or Werner, or O'Halloran, are to blame, or a combination of thereof, but this is a case where one gigantic bad contract gone wrong snowballed into a franchise set back of five years, or more.

Not to mention other front office executive blunders.
They gave up too early on Benintendi, he found his groove in KC, became an All Star, now a Yankee, you just know he'll come back to haunt them too.

Red Sox ticket prices are obscene, some games it's 500 dollars, no ordinary Sox fan will go to Fenway while they field an AAA team for a few years.

Giants just received Dixie Machado from the Cubs. I traded $4.50 for a sandwich. Same level of intensity and relevance.

You don't need to get big names on trades. Look at Braves, They only got some fringe players last year that helped team to win big. The big names come with big egos that usually hurt the team chemistry.

The Cards and Astros have discussed the possibility of a trade involving veteran righty Jake Odorizzi, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. In addition, such names as Noah Syndergaard and Nathan Eovaldi were “at least discussed internally” by the Cardinals’ front office as possible targets.

The people I know say it's down to two teams and the Cards are the front runners.
The Cardinal franchise generally doesn't like to go the mid season trade route like this and sacrifice youth, but the word is they really don't have much of choice, Mantas is the only available option left, and they have to find the innings to replace two starting pitchers, not just one.

Astros have made 2 very good acquisitions and have still not traded from their starting pitching overage yet. Makes me wonder if a big outfield or relief pitching acquisition is still in the works.

Red Sox are a mess right now.
Xander is beyond pissed off now they traded his buddy Vazquez to Houston, Sox ownership is "fine, we don't want to pay you going forwards anyways..."

Bloom's an idiot, the GM isn't much brighter, and their playing their fans for suckers.
That franchise is a cash cow, and this is the best product they can produce?

Like clockwork, the Yankees big hitting acquisition at the deadline has one measley infield single in 7 games while Trey Mancini turns into Hank Aaron with the Astros
