Is Bill Belichick's Seat Starting To Get Warm?

A former Pro Bowl player offered some ridiculous analysis recently.

LaVar Arrington was a guest on “First Things First” on FS1 and talked about the New England Patriots. He said that coming off the season the Pats had, Bill Belichick has something to prove this season.

Arrington acknowledged that his comments might sound “crazy” to some, but he said things are getting “warm” for Belichick.

“Having the type of season that they had last year can make you rethink a whole lot of things that you did in the past. That seat is warm for Bill Belichick,” Arrington said, via NESN. “And that might sound crazy for some people, but Bill Belichick has to have a good season this year. And you know why? Because there are whispers — ‘It was Tom. It was always Tom. It couldn’t have been anything else but Tom.’ And Bill Belichick has to show before he gets too far away from Tom Brady leaving that it was not Tom Brady; that it was, in fact and indeed, the system of what Bill Belichick built in New England.”

What Arrington says isn’t crazy, it’s just that his terminology was wrong.

It’s incorrect to say that Belichick’s seat is warm. That would imply that he could be fired if the Patriots don’t perform well next season. That is not happening. Belichick has won six Super Bowls and can remain in New England probably as long as he wants. However, Arrington is correct in saying that there is pressure for Belichick to win next season. Nobody in New England enjoyed going 7-9 last season. The uncharacteristic offseason they had seemed to be proof of this. Belichick might want to adjust his draft strategy this season too.

The seat is warm for Belichick because he farted.

    That's about it.

The last two SBs were all Defense. They limited Bradys throwing later in the season, ran the ball a lot, and played great D (his expertise). Dink and dunk west coast offense.

    This is complete crap.

Bucs same formula. Brady threw 20 interceptions in the playoffs

    it was always tom?

it was tom when they won playoff games with 17 points? when they won playoff games regardless of him throwing multiple picks?

huge defensive plays, stands, special teams plays, amazing clutch kicks to win...

and ill just leave out all the cheating scandals and flag throwing refs who loved them

There is probably a little bit of truth to this. Even though it clearly wasn't Brady, if they go 7-9 again that will be the perception and we know that can become reality in the eyes of the fans. Throw in the fact that Belichik can get a coach or GM job amost anywhere and he might just resign instead of deal with the crap.

It's Bill's decision if he wants to retire or not from New England... he'll never be fired.

nobody has had the same amazing group of coaches keeping together a good to great defense, clutch kicker, solid to great special teams and a solid line to protect and give the QB time to throw

nobody else in history has had that kept around him year in year out for every single year of their career

    tell me I'm wrong

all Brady does is try to not penetrate it up in the playoffs... defense was the glue to the first 3 titles , seattle ****** up for the pats... ATL royally choked for the Pats and the Rams in 18 were frauds Saints should've been there if the PI was called

    tell me I'm wrong

If they miss the playoffs this year? I would say maybe. Kraft could not have been happy to see Brady hoist up that Lombardi, knowing the only reason he left was belichick

They limited Brady's throwing because Bill runs a dictatorship. Had they been using Brady properly they would have been going after stud wrs. Brady played with 1 hall of fame wr in his career. And only for a few years. No hall of fame running backs.

last I checked, Brady had a game winning drive in every single superbowl he won, except for the last one which was a blowout.

    You say "atl royally choked"

Yeah buddy, you don't just score 25 points in 15 minutes when the other team chokes. You actually have to throw the ball and put points on the board in a high pressure game. You can't have a single mistake.

Seattle f up? Last I checked, Brady had 2 tds in the 4th quarter of that superbowl. You know how many points Payton Manning scored in the entire superbowl vs. Seattle? Thought so. Defense was the exact same, arguably better Brady's year. And he shredded them in the 4th.

Seems like you've been making excuses for 20 years.

Everyone on the team is clutch. The kicker, defense, wrs, line. Looks like everyone is so clutch. Except Brady, right?

PileBuck is right, Brady is the best leader. Because the way he motivates guys, you can't put that on your stat sheet. Bellichick is a robot. You don't understand how hard it is to be the type of leader Brady is. I really don't think you do. There's maybe a handfull of guys in the history of sports that can do that. Literally a handfull across every sport, across 100 years.

No, clearly a guy who comes on the field and kicks a ball for 3 points through a post deserves more credit than the only player on the field who touches the ball for every single offensive snap.

    sounds about right

Arrington is a joke for saying this. Belicheck 6 super bowls and lost half his starting defense before the year even started due to covid. Nobody is going to win with a makeshift defense, no weapons on offense, and a washed Cam Newton. It's a damn miracle he went 7-9 with that team. Most coaches would go 3-13 with that roster.
