Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones had 1.6 million PPV buys

Highest PPV numbers of 2020. Higher than any UFC event. Boxing is still king.

I’m pretty shocked that many people bought the fight. Just shows that people just want to be entertained and are begging for something to do/watch.

Mike Tyson drew insane pay-per-view numbers for Roy Jones Jr. fight

    Peter Botte December 8, 2020 | 10:11am | Updated

MIKE TYSON The former heavyweight champion’s exhibition draw against Roy Jones Jr. on Nov. 28 generated over $80 million via more than 1.6 million pay-per-view purchases, according to projections released by Tyson’s Legends Only League and the social-networking service Triller, the fight’s distributor.

Triller owner Ryan Kavanaugh told BoxingScene.com that the Tyson-Jones Jr. bout is expected to rank among the top 10 most purchased PPV events of all-time.The 54-year-old Tyson earned a reported $10 million for his first sanctioned match since an exhibition against Corey Sanders in 2006.

The 51-year-old Jones, a former world champion in four weight classes, reportedly earned $3 million for his eight-round appearance in the ring with Tyson at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Wow, the fight made $80 million but Tyson/Jones only got $13 million. The promoters got paid.

If Tyson did a rematch with Jones, it wouldn't get 1/2 the buys the first one did. People bought it out of curiosity and got to see what a circus that it was.

In an era of nostalgia Mike Tyson might be the most bankable name in sports.

They didn't overprice and Mike didn't lose

It was a winner all around

I believe Tyson owns the promotion company as well, Legends Only or something like that.

This was people wanting to see Tyson, and kids eating up whatever social media influencers say and watching Paul.

Imagine a PPV pick up game with Jordan vs Lebron, that would stop the world.

I think Tyson, RJJ and Jake Paul got a cut of PPV buys.

    Them being the only draws.

That was not boxing-that was a circus act LOL......like I said ....a Royal Rumble with Youtubers and Rappers would do huge nubers, but it does not mean its king---it proves its dead that a gimmick BS show it the highlight of the sport....

    • Jake Paul's sensational KO win over Nate Robinson only earned him $600
    • Paul focuses more on gaining ring experience than earning a big payday
    • Floyd Mayweather applauds Robinson for his effort

Internet sensation Jake Paul and former NBA star Nate Robinson put on a good show that was capped with a vicious knockout in the second round by the YouTuber at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
However, it turns out that the clash hardly gave either competitor a big payday. Both Paul and Robinson were guaranteed only a measly $600 for the clash.
Their final take-home pay could increase depending on the success of the pay-per-view sales.

Tyson/RJJ was the first boxing ppv to break 1million since Canelo/GGG in 2018

And it took two washed up boxers from 3 decades ago to do it

    Boxing is dead

I won't do PPV for an exhibition. However, if some beast comes along that resembles what Iron Mike used to be, I'm in.
