A Proposed new cryptocurrency ? The U.S. 'Digital Dollar'

Proposed legislation meant to shore up the U.S. economy during the coronavirus pandemic includes a recommendation to create a digital dollar.

This virtual greenback would help individuals and families survive the shutdown of businesses and series of “shelter-in-place” orders which resulted in skyrocketing unemployment claims and a potential severe recession...

The Federal Reserve – the nation’s central bank – could use a “digital dollar” and digital wallets to send payments to “qualified individuals,” consisting of $1,000 for minors and $2,000 to legal adults.

People still can’t figure out Dir Dep , and don’t even have bank accounts. Maybe if you can have your digi dollars sent to the liquor store and they’ll “exchange” them for you. 10+ years away at best.

Uhh, you can buy anything online between credit card, paypal, bank account #s, etc. A digital dollar is pretty much no different from a dollar in this age. And government-controlled bitcoin is an oxymoron. What am I missing?

Cashless society? Another to advance their agenda. They're feeling it now, folks. The jumper's wet!

I have no doubts the dollar is gonna become increasingly digitized. They want to monitor everything we do and sell it to us that it's purely about our convenience. But it's still a "dollar." And it's really not that different from what's already happening.

Half of the reason to bet on crypto is to hedge against all this shit that might come crashing down. This proposal has nothing to do with btc or any other crypto

    This is non-news

    Innovative thinking at least.

If they could bring themselves to support a decentralized system it might be good for all.

But that wont happen of course.

Sam w/ respect, you are making me look bad and I am capable of doing that on my own. Making me look bad in that I`ve been saying that we are all calling one another "chip" in two years or so.

My entire customer base is made up of people with no checking accounts or who are unbankable.

It may happen but there will always be cash. There's 5 to 10 percent of the population illegal or transient or incompetent.

That doesn't necessarily guarantee anything. The New World Order isn't gonna pander to illegals, transients, or incompetence. In fact, those castaways are so low on the totem pole they'll be deemed expendable, much like the elderly are currently.

Things will never be the same again. Just shut the whole world down while the mechanics whittle away at human rights, civil liberties and personal freedom. And isn't it convenient that social distancing prevents people from gathering in groups of protest?

yeah 5 years ago i thought bitcoin would fail and go to zero at some point. no way it ever goes to zero now

worst case scenario is it will at least be looked upon like an atari or even Nintendo and kept as mementos which could prove valuable as time goes on into a distant future

yeah i never thought id say this but in the future a full blown dictatorship might be better than what we have now

this constant bickering between left and right is counterproductive for advancement of anything. both sides cannot allow the other one look good. theres that joke thats been around about if trump said air is great for you breathe as much as you can today..... then the dems would come out and say no! stop!! dont breathe air!!!

its really fuct up to say but its true. todays politics do not help the general public at all now because of this. at least with a dictatorship it is what is and thats that! no more crying foul

i say this tongue in cheek of course but the way things are right now is so so broken because of this never ending left vs right battle win at all costs no matter what

Good point. If the US government were to accept a crypto currency -- even just a Tether-type, non price fluctuating crypto -- it would be a huge step towards legitimizing the entire industry.

With the fear of government prohibition/restriction reduced, mainstream retailers (Amazon, etc.) would be incentivized to help the community solve that final, elusive problem preventing crypto's widespread adoption: a mechanism for instant, point of sale confirmations.
