How Come NFL Doesn't Have Camera On First Down Sticks?

All this money, and we can never get a shot straight down the first down line. You think they would have this by now.

    Because the technology doesn't exist.

Except in tennis, soccer, baseball, etc.

First down markers move to an infinite number of positions so it's not possible to get every good angle (think elevation not just yardage) at each position. End zones do seem to have good camera angles in many cases but they are often inconclusive. There's just no way to have the cameras setup perfectly on-the-fly as the game goes on.

They can’t put a camera in the sticks? This is 2019, you are telling me the NFL is unable to put a camera in a stick?

Once or twice a game does the first down come up for questioning based on the spot. Just let the viewers see the yellow line on the screen and call it a day.

The only item that hasn't evolved in technology for football is the 10 yd chains. They can use lasers to measure the downs down to 1/16th of an inch with a chip embedded in balls.

They literally could put a micro chip in the balls and it could be perfect.

I"ve talked about this for years. I think it's because we love the drama, bad calls, hot takes, the slow moving of the chains as it drops near the balls.

I mean I don't, penetrate that. But we are always talking about the plays, refs, calls on Monday hot takes which keeps eyes glued to the TV.

Give me another reason we don't update to past 2002 technologies?

Great minds think alike. Hockey and soccer have goal line technology. NFL can use it to tell if ball crossed the end zone or on downs.
