You have to motivate NBA players?
"The NBA is discussing a $1 million-per-player purse for the winners of the proposed 30-team in-season tournament, league sources told ESPN.
The league is hopeful that an additional financial incentive would motivate players to treat a new tournament with a competitive fervor."
They're not motivated??? God I hate sports now.

Every profession under the sun has issues with motivation. Just because you CAN get paid millions to play a sport, doesn't mean you LOVE doing it. The same as every job ever.
For the most part nba players earn their money unlike baseball

The idea of a Winter Cup is a good one. What they need is consolation games, otherwise the losing teams will be rewarded with days off. An 82 game schedule is so boring...............
They need to do it all in neutral venues as well. Maybe India -the new frontier the basketball. Or China -I think they would forgive the NBA for such a thing... kerrrching!
NBA is in trouble. Players of this and future generations have been coddled since grammer school.
There is a solution, but the owners would never go for it.

60 games regular season.
4-6 worst teams from Champ League get bounced
4-6 top Premeir teams rise
Playoff shares double in Champions League
Obviously way more shit to figure out, but every game would matter to every team.

Doesn't solve the problem anyway. League play in general is boring after a few weeks. Like watching people do a day job. Needs something to spice it up/ break from the norm.
You can't incentivise playing hard for 6-7 months. Not possible.
yes, they play the games out and aren't truly motivated to play at 100% for prob 50% of games
why you gotta find good spots... catch teams as they get hot/cool off... fade em on last road game when playing 3 in 4/5 nights... etc
then you have to hope the refs don't f your bet late in the game or teams do something dumb like a team is +9.5 and they are down 8 with 4 seconds left and one dude decides to foul a guy who hits both FT

So turn it into soccer?? a sport almost no Americans give a shit about. Smart.
