Professional baseball pitcher Felipe Vazquez was found guilty of various sexual assault charges for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 2017, when he was 26.On Thursday, a jury found him guilty on 15 counts of multiple charges and not guilty on another ten. The teen girl, now 17, was in the courtroom when the two-time Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star was convicted. She testified that both of them had sex in his car outside her home hours before a game. Since his arrest in 2019, Vazquez maintained that he was under the impression that the girl was 17 (a legal age of consent in Pittsburgh) at the time of their encounter.Vazquez and the girl started exchanging messages on social media. As the messages grew more explicit and into a sexual relationship, their encounters stopped after the girl's mother found a picture of Vazquez in his underwear on her phone.Vazquez was found guilty of statutory sexual assault, sexual abuse of children, child pornography, corruption of minors, and indecent assault of a minor under 16. He was found not guilty of unlawful contact or communication with a minor. The 29-year-old also has cases pending in Missouri and Florida related to the same girl.
