I've never lived in Vegas but I've been there 100s of times.

I've also known plenty of people who got tired of Vegas after awhile.

Obviously one of the pros is getting the money in your hand when you win, cheap drinks etc.

It's really hard to answer this cause the pros and cons are so obvious,

      Low Class City like Detroit

Riddled with hookers and pimps and junkies

Dirty, way too much traffic, low paying jobs

Not for me. If you got a good driving record, then you don't need to worry.

Their new sportsbook opens on October 17th. Its pretty nice. 15 103" Plasmas, 2 10' screens, numerous 70" and 50" TV's. New sportsbook deli and bar.

Now they just need to keep the bums out of there.

I'd say try a centrally located one like Caesars,Ballys,Imperial Palace,Flamingo if you want to see different attractions within walking distance.

My favorite Casino is Mandalay Bay which is the first Mega Casino on the strip.

I strongly suggest visiting Downtown Vegas which is like 5 minutes away from the Strip. I've always seemed to have more luck in downtown Vegas.

Son, we've all thought about living in Las Vegas. Be assured, it takes at least 10 years off your life expectancy and it's hard to stay in money. Stay in Dubuque!!!

Vegas is a nice place to visit, but......

As long as I can make an on-line bet 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week from my computer, I am staying right where I am.

Loved the strip, and all the casinos have a flavor of their own. I hear a round of golf is a bit expensive though.

Grand Canyon is a few hours drive away as well.

I lived there about 1987-1995. Wether it is right for you or not depends on what you seek, I wouldn't put it in my top 5 places to move back to.

It can be much like any other city if you make it so. It's changed a lot... more expensive now.

Have you ever lived in a casino town?

I lived in a casino town before. It is hard for some people to lead a balanced life. But I was playing blackjack then, and to beat blackjack you have to play lots of hands. Sportsbetting might be different.

Would you be working full time and sportsbetting on the side? Or would you try to make your living at sportsbetting?

If you can live a balanced life, have constructive interests outside of betting, have a source of income other than betting, then you can probably be happy there.

Personally, I find it hard to do that when living in a casino town.

Sir, your experience is typical. The other drawback is that one tends to lose all enjoyment and becomes "Vegas jaded".

If you want to work there, it's limited... great if you know construction like carpenter or Air Conditioning, otherwise it's casino based jobs, and the standard retail, and gov't type stuff. Nothing is made in Vegas, so if you're an electronics engineer, it's the middle of nowhere. Vegas fits me, as I can always work construction type job from carpenter to HVAC to welder. I've been there and done that, getting too old for construction.

I might go back for a brief period if I get divorced, but it's not where I want to be, it would be a default-type place to go for awhile, since I know the city.

                                        It's a tough town !

I moved from Oklahoma (with a good driving record [at the time ] and my insurance almost doubled... then again about everything is half as cheap as it was there... I'm renting a two bedroom townhouse for slightly more then what I paid to rent a room, in a decent area, from someone in Vegas...

another example is my compressor in air conditioner went out while I was in Dallas and got an estimate of getting it fixed for $800 there... I was in a hurry to get back so I drove all the way back with no air conditioning (in ****ing July) thinking I could shop around and get pretty much the same or maybe even a little better price... it ended up costing me over $1200 there...

I've been in vegas for a year. I lived on the E Coast all over New England, previously. I don't ever want to leave...
Beautiful weather, lots of hot snatch, tons of crap to do beyond betting and cards that are fun. Can't beat being 10-15 minutes from everything, either.

I dunno, I really like it here. I can't sit out on my back porch and watch football and grill without freezin my arse off back east. To me, it doesn't get any better.

Are you going to impress someone and plan on hanging out in the room the whole time? Stay on the strip...

Are you going to gamble and get drunk while looking for somewhere safe, cheap, and clean to sleep a few hours between gambling and getting drunk? stay downtown or offstrip.. you'll save more then enough on your room (while getting better odds and deals on your gambling) to pay for a couple cab rides to go sightseeing with the tourist on the strip...

My favorite stay downtown (read safe, cheap, and clean room) is the Vegas Club (ask for a north tower room)... the casino sucks but the rooms are decent+ ....

Living in Vegas is not overrated. I have been here for about 13 years. Just like any city, it depends on where you live. The Eastern end of town has been declining for a long time, but the Northwest end of town is very fresh and mostly newer homes.

I live in the Summerlin area which seems to show better school district scores, which is important since education has not been one of our strong suits.

The COOLEST thing about Vegas is that anybody can fit it here. It doesn't matter who you are or what you like, we have it and you are welcome. I have lived in and visited many places in this country. None other are so well balanced with ethnic, religious and not so religious offerings.

Bottom Line = you cant beat Vegas!

p.s. There's also Henderson, North Las Vegas, Blue Diamond, Pahrump and Boulder City. All are good places to live if you find the right neighborhood and all will allow you easy access to all the things that make Millions of tourists come here, every year, from around the world.

Vegas is BAD-ASS IMO, I moved there in 2000 but had to move back to Seattle in 2001 for my eye surgery and I can't wait to get back there! Traffic really is not much better or worse than what I'm used to here in Seattle and cost of living is MUCH cheaper in vegas(Seattle is one of the most expensive cities to live in) I'm sure a few things are different, but bottomline for me is it was MUCH MUCH better living in vegas than living in Seattle, 1st off, and most obvious is the weather, You can't do ANYTHING in Seattle cause it rains so much, we get a few good months every summer, but other than that the weather sucks here and is great there(The heat in the summer is a major issue tho..but thats what the AC is for) just stay indoors during the summer, shop and run errands at night(cause most everything is open 24 hours a day down there) There's ALWAYS something entertaining to do, ALWAYS cheap/free booze and some of FINEST females on the face of the earth reside there! Now I will admit some areas of the city are pretty scrubby and low-class/ghetto, but you can find areas like that in EVERY major city nowadays! The trick there is to have self-control, if you can gamble/drink responsibly, Vegas is heaven, if you don't trust yourself around Money/Alcohol I'd say to stay away! The other thing you gotta be careful with is who you associate with, cause their are alot degenerates down there who would try and take advantage of you in a second, so as long as you're in a decent area and make friends with decent people, there's no place better in the world to live..except maybe Dubai!!! They are pretty tough on drugs too and the Mary Jane down there is horrible anyways, so not a pot-smokers paradise, But one hell of a place to live IMO, as long as you can handle all the temptation and not let it ruin you!

You are right on bro. I live in Vegas. The only part you were off was on the drugs. They are not tough on drugs here. If they were then we would have a million jails here. Its Vegas. Actually 42% of people voted to LEGALIZE marijuana here on question 7 last fall. Its a misdeameanor anyways for marijuana. Further, the cannabis here is world quality and I have lived in Cali and been to Amsterdamn. Its who you know. Get in with the medical crowd like me and ur all good. http://agri.nv.gov/ADMIN_MedMarijuana.htm
