Astros switched starter right before the game yesterday

And he threw to like 2 batters before the original starter came in. I guess the refund would be nice if had lost but it won so cost me the winnings. Why would the astros do this? The original guy scheduled to start was put in first inning and threw over 5 innings but didn't started hence the refunded wager

Did they report an injury here?

    What the hell happened?

Did they just negate a market on some technicality?

I suppose it's within the rules, but I don't think I've heard of this before.

    What really happened here?

They did what the Angels were doing for a bit and now what the Mariners are doing. They put in some scrub for an out or 2 then bring in their scheduled starter. They did it with LeBlanc the night before and last night with Malone.

Yeah it cost me too. Then I went on to lose my next bet that I never would have made so it was a big swing in my balance.

Didn't even realize the original listed starters were getting back into those games, just didn't think it would be that way so didn't see it when it happened.

    Weird.

What the fuk is going on here? So we are supposed to assess the starter, then try to figure on an opener so even have a 1st five chance numbers wise?

    Da Fuq?

    These fuks!!!

Not gonna lie, starting to get a little sour faced over here...

There's just something wrong with this pitcher game.

Have you guys been living under a rock for the past year or so?

More teams are following the Rays' lead of using openers. The difference is that you know what the Rays are doing the night before, whereas other teams are waiting until gameday, or worse a few hours before gametime, to announce the opener, which is shitty.

There’s more to it this time though.

    Two issues...

It’s not just about the opener, it’s that starter listed is coming back in.

And the opener isn’t getting out of the first inning then the original starter comes in?

That pretty much negates markets, does little else.

    Strange from a gambling perspective.

    Happening more more and more.

Pulling the starter, killing listed bets, then putting him right back in seems like a decision Vegas could make with ease.

    lmao

Where did Bergman hit last night?

Maybe wanted to get past him and then go to lefty.

Right, that is how opener works. Short reliever opens the game and then normal starter becomes bulk reliever. Facing just a couple of batters is a twist though, Stanek usually goes at least one inning for Tampa. And yes, 99% of the time when there is a pitching change to an opener. it is for the original starter so the latter remains the bulk guy

Way to avoid refund is bet Action in any game involving Angels, Seattle, Texas or Oakland.

Are these players that mental that they feel they don't pitch as well starting a game vs. coming in after an out or 2 from the fences?

    It is really sad...

That is not the reason. It is usually done with backend rotation guys and it usually allows them to face the bottom of the order when they first come in, and with the top of the order not seeing them at the start, it also helps them work deeper into games.

Worked out well for the Mariners last night.

I like this new strategy. Keep everyone in the dark. It confuses hitters who are prepared to face one pitcher and they see another one. It may not be good gamblingwise but it makes the game more exciting.

Well the opener needs to do his job.

Stanek could carve out a nice living for himself in opener role.

That's right, we have been seeing that listen pitcher come in, but I'm not too comfortable with such a short stint with the "opener"

And why aren't we calling the opener the starter?

After all, he was the starting pitcher.

I don't bet Action across any of the MLB Funds, ever, there is too much at stake there.
