    Bears Talk To Kareem Hunt

Bears head coach Matt Nagy recently spoke with former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt (Twitter link via Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune). Nagy says the call was primarily to “check in on him as a person,” so the Bears aren’t necessarily looking at him as a free agent target. However, the two men have a relationship dating back to their time together in Kansas City and it may be a situation worth monitoring.

“[We had] a good conversation,” he said. “It’s an unfortunate situation (and) learning lesson for everybody.”

Nagy added that he believes in giving people second chances, but not third chances. That may be a reference to Hunt’s spotty off-the-field track record, which includes accusations of violence before and after his infamous brawl from February in which he appears to be kicking a woman in a hotel corridor.

Pressed with questions about Hunt, GM Ryan Pace was quick to put some distance between the team and the embattled RB. Pace says the Bears are “not even close to” the point of pursuing a deal with Hunt (Twitter link via Campbell).

Nagy has KC connections going back to Reid, but Bears have much bigger needs than running back, they need a top receiver to go with Robinson.

If he gets a deal it will likely be a league minimum contract.

Howard could not shine Hunts shoes, he would help any team you need multiple rbs and no team has two guys better than him except maybe the Redskins.

Of course but why deal with the distraction when the Bears have bigger issues.

kareem hunt was a product of a great offensive system. he was only a 3-star recruit of of high school and the 7th RB chosen in the draft. why? becasue hes slow. 4.70 40 yard dash thats very slow. he blew it big time.........he will be lucky to get another year of NFL salary and if he joins a team without a great o-line he will do nothing. what joe mixon did was worse but hes a true star, electric

This is foolish, hunt is right there with Elliot and Barkley as far as talent

any RB in that system plays well. teams are petrified of tyreke hill/kelce/watkins it opens up tons of space for the RB

Damien Williams has more yards per carry than Hunt ever did, this season or last season. Williams is a fringe nfl player, career journeyman with a career 3.5 ypc and now on the chiefs its 5.1

Hunt fuked himself out of 50 million at least. hes lucky to grab another 2 million from the league and when hes on some random team and does nothing they will boot him like he boots women

Kareem Hunt was great last year even when Alex Smith was the QB and teams didn't fear the Chiefs throwing down the field. Obviously the Chiefs system would make any running back look good, but Hunt had speed and power, he's much better than Williams, who had 14 yards rushing and less than 2 yards a carry against Baltimore.

You could just as easily argue that Gurley with the Rams, Bell in the past with the Steelers, were benefitting from the system. Its a always a combination of the system and the player unless you have a once in a generation RB like Barry Sanders or Adrian Peterson in his prime. The running back position isn't about 40 time, its about cuts and balance, acceleration, straight line speed by itself isn't a good measure.

Hunt has really good contact balance, where a guy like Fournette just goes down any time he gets touched.

thats one game. in a large season sample size williams has 5.1 ypc and Hunt 4.9

there are literally 150 RB's you could plug into the chiefs and they would have good stats. why is joe mixon in the NFL what he did was way worse. and hes in the NFL because hes a true talent and not an average RB like Hunt

Except Kareem Hunt also has been elite in yards after contact which is a new advanced stat that has been kept the last several years - that's not the system, he's a much stronger more physical runner.

yes hes good in YAC but thats cause hes easy to make contact with. he has one of the slowest ratings to get thru the line in the league last year, his first burst is slow. legarette blount also has a great YAC but hes not a star. Chiefs knew what they were doing by cutting him .1 seconds after the video was released. now they dont have to pay him $50 million for what a $2 million RB can do

A lot of running backs would look good in the Chiefs offense this year - but last year with Alex Smith teams game planned for him, they still couldn't stop him, he led the league in rushing yards.
