Mets Expect Tebow To Come Back In 2019

Former NFL quarterback and current Mets outfield prospect Tim Tebow is expected to continue his baseball career in 2019. Mets assistant general manager John Ricco says Tebow hasn't given any indication that his attempt at carving out a major-league career is over, Tim Healey of Newsday writes.

Tebow, who turned 31 in August, played 84 games for Double-A Binghamton this season and batted .273/.336/.399 with six home runs and time split between left field and DH. Tebow's season ended in late July thanks to a broken hamate bone in his right wrist. Across parts of two minor-league seasons and a 2016 stint in the Arizona Fall League, Tebow has batted .240/.317/.356 with a notable step forward in production this season.

Assuming Tebow does return in 2019, he seems likely to open the season at the Triple-A level. That, seemingly, would position him for a potential call-up at some point.

Actually thought that he might have jumped to one of the spring football leagues. Guess he still could since the XFL doesn't start until 2020.

He could get called up if the Mets need to sell more tickets.

Tim Tebow didn't have any trouble deciding to stick with baseball when the new Alliance of American Football league came calling before the season.

In a press conference held upon his arrival to Mets' spring training, Tebow told reporters "it was easy" to turn down co-founder Bill Polian's offer to play.

"Even though it was an awesome offer and it's humbling, I'm all-in on baseball," Tebow said Saturday. "No way could I stop and not give this the chance after everything I've worked for."

Tebow said Orlando Apollos head coach and ex-Gators coach Steve Spurrier has reached out to him several times to try and change his mind.

"They called a lot—and coach Spurrier keeps calling," Tebow said. "And I love coach Spurrier."

Things aren’t going swell in Tebow Land.
Tim Tebow is having a tough year with the Syracuse Mets, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. He’s played in nearly every game, yet has the lowest stats on the team in nearly every category.
