If the IRS, FBI or Secret Service sends you a letter- be worried.
If they don’t, then you’re ok.

You won't get it back. If you do it'll take months of automated replies from bots via email.

They cost me about 7 grand in total. Don't wait on them, put your $ elsewhere

I guess that huge deposit I sent the other day of $87 must have tipped the feds, WTF ?
Thought the beauty of the BTC was the transactions were "anonymous"...that's what the Books tell ya !

They're anonymous in the sense when you're sending/receiving Bitcoin, you're not using a name when sending to an address which then deposits/withdraws from your wallet. The main problem is at the exchange level where you want to exchange Bitcoin for USD and vice versa so they have KYC unless you're willing to buy/sell over the counter which is riskier and more expensive (particularly when buying). Coinbase probably recognized the addresses you were sending/receiving funds from as being tied to a sports book based on previous transactions to/from their system (and probably had them flagged).
That's why it's advised to use a go between wallet. It's a generic wallet that has zero reason to have an address flagged. One of the extra benefits as to why Blockchain is useful also is it generates a new address whenever you receive Bitcoin. That way, only one transaction is associated with that address (even though it deposits into the same wallet) and not every transaction to/from your wallet which makes it much more difficult to track transactions.

There are currencies that do a much better job at maintain anonymity (such as Monero), but they're not as widely accepted yet.

What does anonymous have to do with you not reading or ignoring the terms of service?

    Prohibited Use

You may not use your Coinbase Account to engage in the following categories of activity ("Prohibited Uses"). The specific types of use listed below are representative, but not exhaustive. If you are uncertain as to whether or not your use of Coinbase Services involves a Prohibited Use, or have questions about how these requirements apply to you, please submit a request at https://support.coinbase.com. By opening a Coinbase Account, you confirm that you will not use your Account to do any of the following:

Gambling: Lotteries; bidding fee auctions; sports forecasting or odds making; fantasy sports leagues with cash prizes; internet gaming; contests; sweepstakes; games of chance

There must have been a thread on here 3 times a week for the last couple of years talking about this too.

Virtually every time I have answered a question about this for the last 2 years, someone has felt the need to throw in that they dont bother and havent been caught out yet.

Not surprised people ignore the terms and repeated warnings when those posts are so common. But kind of hope all those people that posted that bad info get pinged themselves. They have made it much harder to get the good info across.
