Texas A&M Expected To Fire Kevin Sumlin After LSU Game

According to the Houston Chronicle, Sumlin is “expected to be dismissed in the day or days” after the game against LSU on Saturday. When asked about his future at Tuesday’s press conference, Sumlin rhetorically asked why he wouldn’t be Texas A&M’s coach.

A move to fire Sumlin isn’t a surprise if you believed what Texas A&M athletic director Scott Woodward said this spring. Woodward said Sumlin knew heading into the season that he had to win and expressed disappointment at A&M’s run of 8-5 seasons.

I think he has 2 years left on a guaranteed contract at $5 million a throw. If he gets the ax then some wealthy boosters stepped up. A&M has been dogged with bad defenses although this year they are not the problem. They are right in the middle of great talent territory. Some serious talent in that stretch down I-10 from San Antonio to New Orleans.

LOL disappointed in 8-5 seasons? In the SEC no less. The athletic director is a joke. He wasnt too disappointed with Sarksian going 5-7 then 3 straight years of 7-6, he didnt fire Steve, Steve let for USC. Sumlin should just leave, find better pastures.

They should have fired him one second after the UCLA debacle.

As usual, you leave out the important stats to prove your argument. Sark had a 9-4 record in his last season at UDub. Then Woodward hired Chris Petersen as the UDub HC. Petersen is a much better head coach than Sumlin is. Stop your continous Bull S**t. You still know NOTHING about College Football.

No it was 8-4 his last season at Washington. The point is "Seven Win Steve" started 5-7 and had 3 straight 7-6 seasons and kept his job with no problem. Sumlin has won at least 8 games each season lol, you cant make this up. Im sure he has the best record of any coach in the history of college ball over 6 seasons to get fired if that happens shortly.

Sark won 9 games his last season. Boise State, Idaho State, Illinois, Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State, and BYU. That adds up to 9. When I tell you something boy, you listen. If 9 say 9, then it is 9. PERIOD! I do not want to hear anymore Bull S**t from you. Sumlin will end up with a 7-5 record. He will go 4-4 in the SEC West. He will have gone 0-6 vs LSU and 0-5 against Alabama in his last 5 games. That is NOT acceptable. You will do anything to try and convince us that you are right, even lie. You are so cheap that you will not chip in $100.00 for the kids and become a pro. That may not be true. You probably do not have the money. Now just go back into your sewer and let the adults talk football.

On his wiki page it says 8-4, for whatever reason they didnt add the bowl game win into it. Doesnt matter, the same truth stands, he had 3 straight 7-6 seasons and wasnt fired, no hint of being fired, and even went on to a better job. My post wasnt even about Sumlin it was about the athletic director and his imbalances.

IF a school doesn't want you why stay. Texas A&M doesn't realize who they are. Switch divisions with Mizzu and then everything will be perfect. Texas A&M is in the toughest division in the country other than maybe the Big 10 with OSU, UM, PSU, and MSU, but it's hard to win games in an arms race like the SEC West. Every team in that division has been through 2,3, or 4 coaches since Nick Saban has been there and only to still compete for 2 place or lower. LSU should never have fired Les Miles for beating everyone but Bama. There are no gimme games in the SEC West, even Arkansas won a game or two and made bowl games despite finishing last quite a bit.

there are no Rice's, non-cheating Baylor's, non-cheating TCU's, and non-cheating SMU's like there were in the old SWC.....

I totally agree. The guy is a terrible HC. He belongs in the group of 5, NOT the power 5, just like his buddy Charlie Strong proved.

i think sumlin and TAM has run its course although i question whether they'll do sustainably better without him.

the last stretch that TAM was a perpetual top 10 team was late 80's and early 90's... that's no very recent and doubtful they'd have done that if they'd been in today's SEC West at the time.

the whole Texas A&M could grab elite recruits from houston to new orleans or even further both ways makes sense at first glance, but i don't see it in the recruiting rankings. maybe elite players from texas who want to play SEC want to leave texas. and outside state players can just play for their home state university. i assume texas is quite a bit different a "southern state" than louisiana, alabama, mississippi etc........ so i think there's arguments for and against TAM doing really well in recruiting.

wonder if sumlin goes to ASU?

Yes prob hard to get enough elite to A&M because of so many schools, the really good qbs in that area are gonna wanna play in the Big 12 where theyre airing it out 40 times a game. I guess the biggest thing you can sale them on is youll be playing in the SEC. LSU is special, only school really who has a state by itself not competing against another decent/big school in the state.

Would have had a better chance at National Championships if they had stayed in the Big 12. Tom Herman will be getting those heavy recruits from Texas soon, and the Aggies will be fighting for the cellar in the SEC West.

georgia is pretty close to having a monopoly for in-state elite recruits who want to stay in-state. GT doesn't get elite recruits for a bunch of reasons......

i have to agree with the narrative that sumlin didn't run some "storied program" into the ground.
