Kansas just had their 54 game home winning streak snapped by Iowa State last weekend. They then went on to escape with narrow victories at K-State and Texas Tech this past week. They currently lead the Big 12 standings but this is a HUGE game for them to win yet another Big 12 conference title, particularly with a game at Baylor coming up on Saturday.

It's hard to imagine the Jayhawks losing two in a row at home but I honestly think WVU might be the better team. The Mountaineers dusted them a few weeks ago at Morgantown and even though KU's strength is their guard play - which is huge against the fullcourt press West Virginia uses - I just see them being in for a real struggle tonight. Kansas' ability to win close games is a testament to their experience and poise but the fact they've been in so many tight contests should serve as a major red flag.

Kansas advantage at home is the "home court advantage" which entails touching fouls by the other away team, an KU mugging none calls on the other ends. KU has been my team since I have been a kid I live on the Missouri side. but I can tell you the calls are sometimes ridiculous. what is concerning is all the off the court drama. I makes me wonder if these calls will start to be more evenly distributed in tight spots. With the WV press this game will be hang majorly on how the fouls get called for hard press plays. Kansas has had trouble dealing with presses this year and have not had that much experience with them. If I had to make a play I would roll 1st half under.

I could see a foul distribution low for a few reasons more than not early in this one. Like I said above I would hate to see some of KU's home prestige calls not be there from some off the court stuff. All of the off the court problems affect the reffing more than the performance of the players. In the end I think this will be a tough night for ku win or loss. But I will be on the under. Last year they were in the -5 range at home against Kentucky. But you are right, very rarely do they open at home being less than a 5 point favorite. But take into account they were just a 3.5 point underdog in Morgantown, that is about a 8.5 point swing, which sounds about right.

KU just can't put a full 40 minute game together. Look at all their wins, they rarely win by a lot, and a lot of times they squeek out wins. Most their wins are single digits, and they aren't blowing anyone out. Their big wins in conference are usually by 10-12 points.

If this is your take, then you should be concerned as to why the line is -5 and not -2 or -2.5. This scenario has played out dozens of times this season across the country - a rematch of a home and home where the first was a blow out - and the home team is favored by fewer than 5... This is one of the biggest spreads for that scenario.
