GM Ryan Grigson Blames Andrew Luck For Losing

Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson has taken some criticism for not building a good enough team around quarterback Andrew Luck. But Grigson says the presence of Luck on the team affects the way they build the rest of the club.

Grigson said today that the Colts can’t spend as much money on defense as they’d like because of the six-year, $139.125 million contract they gave Luck this year.

“When you pay Andrew what we did, it’s going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball,” Grigson said, via Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.

Colts are totally lost now. When the excuses come out, the game is over.

Forget defense, how about you fukkin protect the $139 million man. Worst O-line in the NFL.

Doesn't help that his receivers had a dozen drops last week too.

LOL, yup there's your sign! Blaming the QB, who was once destined to be elite, for your struggles. Worst o-line, under-achieving defense...

Luck is a stud. The reason the Colts suck is cause most of their acquisitions either through draft or signing end up being busts and half of their D starters are perpetually injured. If they could put their A team on the field and minimize mistakes, drops, busted coverage etc. they would be right there as a contender for certainly their division. Their division is so weak they are still in contention now. They have a big month ahead, playing 2 divisional opponents. If they go 3-1 this month they're right back in the driver's seat for the division. They could easily be 3-1 right now instead of 1-3 even with all the mistakes. Denver was their only real beat down. They should've beat Lions and Jags. Had the lead late in that Lions game and Luck should've just ran for the marker on that 4th and 1 in London instead of that forced dropped pass, nobody was near him on the left side. They get that first down, they at least tie it up a FG if not complete the drive for the win.

Falcons gave the same to Matt Ryan but they have surrounded him with weapons on offense.

    This GM is clueless.

What a stupid comment. REst assured that Grigson is toast. Player always trumps gm/coach.

Grigson was THE GUY that gave Luck all that $$. Of COURSE he's going to be hamstrung vs the SalCap. Think u could have given him a little less?

Nice to hear your gm throwing the quarterback under the bus for your incompetence. Great foxhole guy. Good luck finding your next job.

Grigson must be one of Irsay's plugs for pills, blow and hookers. He isn't going anywhere if that's the case.

Guy has drafted worse than any GM since Millen's wr run in Detroit. Hilton is one of his few good picks and he is a 2 wr being paid as a 1.

Toronto sports, LMFAO! At least Indy has a championship this century with only 2 pro teams. Cleveland and Kansas City also have a championship for fuks sake. Unbelievable how bad Toronto sports teams are. Raptors nothing. TFC nothing. Blue Jays had marginal success in the early 90's, still nothing at all compared to a real MLB franchise like the Yankees or Cardinals. Does Toronto even have an NHL team anymore? Cause if they do, they haven't been relevant since my grandparents era in the 1960's. Wow what a lousy sports town Toronto is. Good people though no doubt, I honestly feel bad for them. With all the money and endorsements in that world class city they deserve to be winning championships regularly like NYC, LA, Chicago do. Maybe the Jays will pick you guys up this year cause the Raptors and Leafs sure as hell won't be.

The Colts should be panicking, but Jim Irsay claims he's not. Irsay, in an interview with Jarrett Bell of USA Today at the owners meetings in Houston, said he thinks Grigson is unfairly criticized.

"The heap of criticism that has fallen on Ryan Grigson, it is so unjust," Irsay said. "No one bothers to see what the accomplishments have been the first five years."

Colts will make playoffs this year. They have all home games remaining against division opponents. Could easily win out and snatch that weak division at 9-7, maybe 10-6. The secondary and wideouts should be getting healthy and coming back in next week or two. Their bye is at a great time. I'm pretty sure every game they've played this year has been within 1 score late in the 4th quarter and they've lead all of them except the Denver game. Pretty much everything has gone wrong and yet as of right now, they're 1 game out of division, lol.

Yeah that's if Luck doesn't get killed this season

They've been arguably one of the most injured teams at key positions thus far. WR has been decimated, O-line and secondary in rough shape. They'll all be back soon. If they can shore up that D some and just prevent major sacks going forward they have the pedigree to get on a roll and a pretty favorable schedule too. We'll see. I still think they're in the best spot in their division. If they don't beat the Jags and Texans at home, then they don't deserve the division.

I don't know where you point the finger... but Luck isn't even close to the QB he once was. I mean... is he 27 now? If he's 27 and already on his downswing... this team is going to have a lot of issues.

Earlier this week, we heard that the Raiders are considering former Colts GM Ryan Grigson for a front office position. Apparently, it’s already a “done deal,” according to a source who spoke with Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Grigson spent five years as the Colts’ GM and he ultimately failed to give Andrew Luck a proper supporting cast or build up the team’s defense.
