Charlotte Hornets Extend Coach Steve Clifford For 3 Years
The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to a three-year contract extension with coach Steve Clifford, sources told ESPN.com.
Clifford, who is in the final year of the contract he signed when he was hired in 2013, is now signed through the 2018-19 season.
The Hornets are off to a strong 8-6 start despite injuries, including the loss of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist for the season due to a shoulder injury.
Known for his defensive coaching, Clifford has built a good reputation for his work ethic and sideline intensity. He is 84-94 in two-plus seasons with the Hornets and led them to a playoff berth in 2014.
The Charlotte Observer earlier reported that Clifford had agreed to the deal.
I've watched these guys play a few times this year. Not a bad ball club at all. Could get to the 2nd round of the playoffs this year, depending on the match up.
