WBC strips Cotto of title four days before Alvarez fight

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/wbc-str...170931258.html

Miguel Cotto has been stripped of his WBC middleweight title just four days before he was due to defend the belt against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Saturday's fight between Cotto and Alvarez in Las Vegas is one of the most eagerly anticipated of 2016, with a potential bout having failed to materialise in the past.
However, Cotto will not be recognised as the middleweight champion after the WBC claimed the Puerto Rican failed to comply with its rules and regulations.

Belts meaningless in boxing these days. Nobody cares about what alphabet soup belt some lackey in an entourage is carrying to the ring. Sport is dead.

^Correct. Cotto gains more flexibility to do what he wants after the fight. Boxing having 9999 different belts makes people give 0 penetrate about them. Ofcourse people will whine that he is ducking GGG, but it's whatever.

People keep saying boxing is dead and they've been saying it for years but how are these guys making millions if that's true? There's still a lot of money in boxing where's it coming from. I think people mean boxingis boring now? No star power outside of GGG ward canelo a few older washed up legends and heavyweight champ nobody cares about.

He was already supposed to pay 800,000 to GGG but when the WBC asked for 300,00 sanctioning fee he balked. He said he would pay 100,00 but 300,00 was too much. WBC has said Canelo is still eligible for the title if he wins.

rooting for cotto because his career didn't play out like it could have due to margarito being a cheating piece of shit but i think the deck is stacked against him here. canelo is a very hard puncher and cotto isn't the type of guy to back down and box even though it is in his best interest.

the wbc is beyond corrupt and cotto was right in telling them no on the 300k extortion/money grab. love how oscar is talking shit about cotto not paying the fee when he did the same thing when he fought shane.

looking forward to a great night of fights at mb. thought i would miss it due to impending birth of son but doc says he should pop out tues.

I think Cotto has good value at +250, although nothing in boxing is a sure thing. It wouldn't be crazy to see Cotto win the fight and lose on the scorecards

Would be bigger on Cotto if I didn't think there could be some shady shit going on.. like a close as penetrate match and score cards end like 9-3 for Canelo. Seen that shit too many times before

Belts have been meaningless for a while

But in the public eye, regardless of the letters in front, most people generally get excited about a bet holder

This perception changed a bit after Floyd didn't even pay the fee to get his belt after beating Manny

Even the most fairweather fans realized then that belts mean shit

I'm leaning Alvarez on the cards (+120).

    Cotto soon to get TKOd.

This fight really shows me how much more advanced Mayweather is. He totally dominated both of these guys. Neither one of them could touch Mayweather all night. Mayweather is a boring watch but I appreciate how great he is.

I like watching both but I still prefer boxing because there is a science to the madness. It's a fukking grind that the UFC doesn't compare. UFC is good for the overall carnage but it is not the same thinking game as boxing. I can appreciate sluggers in boxing or a stick n move defensive artist like Mayweather. I don't miss either but boxing will always be my first love.

The one thing I hate about UFC is how quick matches are stopped. I know it's for safety but I want to see someone struggle to recover, get back on their feet and figure someone out. In UFC, if you get caught once, it's pretty much over.

FWIW, I don't like early stoppages in boxing either.

Hindsight 20/20 I see why Floyd knew canelo had a very slim shot to beat him ....canelo throws everything with max power Floyd can see that coming a mile away. I think GGG will eat him alive but it will fun watching those murders go at it.

Yeah, he winds up too much and his defense isn't very good BUT the dude is huge. I think GGG is the better boxer (which isn't saying much) but can he hurt Canelo? I think so but he tends to wind up too. That should be a very interesting fight.

Canelo won that by a mile. He controlled the ring and threw the cleaner, harder shots. Cotto was under a lot of pressure the entire night and was seconds away from being knocked out. Canelo was never hurt, challenged or thrown off his game. Power shots won this match.

Canelo appears to have a hell of a chin boxing needs that fight ....i think ward is moving up right if I'm canelo's people I'd keep him far away from ward.
