Transfer Portal out of control, has destroyed CBB parity in a few seasons

We got ZERO cinderallas this year and basically zero upsets. All the smaller conferences are now null and void like CFB. There is almost zero talent outside of the big conferences as if one player looks halfway good he is scalped by a larger program after one year. The transfer portal opened up just yesterday and already one thousand names in the portal. In one fukin day. Think about that one for a minute. Hasn't even been open for 48 hours. That is almost 3 players per team. Every game you watch it takes the announcers 5 minutes to name off how many schools some of these players have already been at. Just ridiculous.

Boise might be one of the last "great" Mid Majors in Football. They had one great player who stayed. I'm actually of the opinion that Mid Majors should split out in FB and Bask to make their own tournament.

I was talking to Nasher about this weeks before the tournament. It wasn't very hard to see, if you watch any CBB, that 99% of these smaller conference schools had zero chance. All of their great players have been harvested immediately by top programs. It is a disgrace how the NCAA has allowed this to get so out of control in a mere few years.

I saw people talking about wanting more teams in the tournament. None of these teams have a chance that are in and you want to add more bottom feeders with zero talent in now? They might as well eliminate auto bids and just take the top teams. I mean they have already made 300 teams in the NCAA irrelevant by the new transfer rules anyways.

Not really into college sports and even I hate that the once exciting Bowl Season and March Madness now seem like chores to be done by most teams instead of meaning a whole lot to anyone not in the top few programs.

Forget about parity. Transfer portal and NIL has killed HS seniors, who can’t/wont get offers. Covid exemption, extra years of eligibility has led schools to go after grown ass men vs a 17/18 year old senior. Unless you’re a high 4 or 5 star, you have to wait before you get any offers. Teams rather have a grad student who already played 4 years of college. You have 25,26, 28 year old men, married with children still playing college where they can get paid. The HS kids end up at smaller schools until they grow up for the big schools to poach.

Smaller schools will be for players that need to get better or just not good enough for top ball. Even Drake really didn't count. The players were from D II. I think it will make the game better. The 25-27 year old guy who is still in college playing for money is absolutely laughable. Move on guy. I’d argue those first years in your future profession are more valuable than chasing a $100-$200k payday.

Probably because all the kids they had a year ago have all transferred to another school. That is the whole point. Watching all these leagues that used to make the tournament great because they had teams that could win games and make a run are now gone. They can't keep a player for more than one year. The years of having exciting first round games and upsets all over the place is over. Now it will be chalk city because the kids at these smaller schools have no chance against programs with top recruits as well as all the good players that once played for them. Any school that isn't part of any of the top conferences will have low end recruits that are all freshmen, and if one turns out to be good, he will be gone before the ink dries on his initial commitment to that school.

Prior to transfer portal changes we had 14 upsets in back to back years seeing mid majors play for a title and makes final 4s. Since then that has also dropped off a cliff. Why? Because all those players that developed or talented players on these teams bolt.

BYU isn't comparable because they moved to a top conference which increased their revenue and stock to players. Give me an example of a mid major school right now that has made big moves and are stronger because of the portal changes?

I know a kid at Xavier making $300k. The average QB in the SEC is making $1 million, which is why these guys are not moving on. Most of these guys won’t/don’t graduate, so this is the most money they’re ever going to make.

I can’t tell you how many college All American resumes I’ve seen through the years applying to a $50k/yr job. Life after college sucks for these guys.

Say goodbye to the Cinderella teams. They cannot keep up with the arms race. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Not many people want to watch mid major teams. Yes, we love upsets but no one is watching Morehead State. Many more people will watch the big schools. Tv viewership was very good last weekend and will be even better this week and next. It’s all a money grab.

I totally agree and a lot of these athletes are going to be hurt in the end. We will hear some very sad stories in the next few years. If NIL was around when I played in college, I probably would have never gotten a degree because I’d be chasing the up front money.

I see a lot of resumes and it’s shocking/depressing to see a college all American applying for some of these jobs. WTF? Guy on top of the world, first team this, first team that and can’t find a job. You hear fanbases say they care about their athletes. BS, no one is giving them a break.

2 guys that played with me committed suicide. Several are destitute. Some real life horror stories. They put all their lives into football. Once your eligibility is up, no one gives a shit. I know several guys that went into sales, car sales, insurance, pharmaceuticals but those are tough jobs that most people can’t keep up. Those guys knew they needed a degree. The kids today are all chasing the money that won’t last past college for 99% of them.
