Guy seemed to live about three lives:
      1) As a young boxer.
      2) Came back later and fought again.
      3) Grill-master and and all-around good guy.

      RIP, George.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

More lives than that. He started life as a thug that would beat and rob you. Joined job corps where he learned to box. He had only fought 20 times as an amateur when he went to the Olympics and Won gold medal. He knocked out 3 of 4 boxers including the Soviet Union champ in the 2nd round. He cleaned up his life. Made a lot of money boxing, decided to be a preacher. Lost all his money by his best friend, business partner that blew it all without him knowing. Went back to boxing to fund his church. Became the spokesman for the grill.

          Good writeup, Mac. Thank You.

My knowledge of sports is good. But not so good on Boxing. I was never a huge boxing fan.

I do admire the work that they put in. Remember how young Foreman looked in the Olympics? Seems like a lifetime ago.

Seems so long ago but I can remember it like yesterday. I can still see him waving a small American flag when he won the Olympics. Still puts a lump in my throat.

First video in Post #1 is a great summary. What a career, what a life.

Sylvester Stallone said that he used the Rumble in the Jungle as a grid for the Rocky II fight. He wanted Apollo to wear himself out, as Sly thought that's only way Rocky could win.

Good stuff, Mac. Sure can't say that he cheated Life.

Guy lived a full life. And left a legacy. Can't beat that.

Nice write up. He really seemed like a genuine guy and a class act.

The guy was a beast. The fight against Joe Frazier , where he pounded him badly , made him the most feared boxer on the planet.
The Movie depicted him as a religious fanatic based on a vision that apparently came to him from above. Perhaps a bit over dramatized , i thought he was a pretty funny dude. Great guy all around

                      RIP Champ

Nice tribute, Franz. I posted my thoughts. Guy was almost timeless when you think about the different stages of his life.

I don’t think there was anyone I’d rather listen to a boxing match more than big George. He was great. Very underrated.
