They are like a sticky note reminding you that you really really really need to build that model you keep saying you're going to build.

Gold, remember this thread when you start talking about how everything is already “baked into the line” and “there are no inefficiencies” etc. etc.

There are three lines… The opener, the current line, and the closer.

If you’re ignoring the opener you’re ignoring 1/3 of the information you’re given to help make a decision or analyze the markets.

I know some market analyst that used to consider the opening line the most important line. A portion of my handicapping bought into this theory as well. After all, it sets the stage for much of the market I’ve been talking about. Also, for many many many years it was considered the only line consistent with every house. This is a very important concept.

These days the opener is manufactured a little differently and you have to treat different houses as subsets of the overall market but the premise does remain the same.

In a world with many unknowns, it’s wise to use the information given, only throw something out like the opener after careful consideration.

Are you referring to football? I like to look at the line when it comes out. If there's a game I like I will write it down on a notebook. The morning of the game I will take a look at it, if there's no significant line change or injuries, I follow through with the wager.

Kenny used to tell us in our meetings that openers didn't matter.

I know what you mean, but there are more than 3 lines of course. Need to analyze the micro-movements in between as well.

That's it. We're not talking about alternate lines.

There's no such thing as "micro-movements" there is just a move that results in a new current line.
