Can someone explain to me how tournaments make their draws? I guess it's not as straightforward as the No. 1 player facing the highest-ranked player in the first round, No. 2 facing the second-highest-ranked . . .

Every tournament's owners set their own draws, each has directors or a committee, in this case it's the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
What they usually do is curate the matchups most anticipated to draw interest later in the rounds when the crowds and tv viewers are the highest.

Raducanu losing R1 wouldnt surprise me at all. Allison legit and won 125k smaller grass tourney last week

nice draw for serena williams as well. In theory should win R1 and good R2 match up

balanced on mens side too. Kyrgios Tsitsipas R3 potential

has power and will control the point
