If you care about recent pitching outings, like last night... Cole had not been good lately, and stunk. Eovaldi had been better recently, but had gotten lit up by NY, and pitched well. Was doing better overall than Cole, and outpitched him.

Now we have Wainwright, who's only really had one bad outing in a long time, and that was 9/23 vs Brewers (and also faced them again right after and did well).. while Scherzer was lights out game after game. Until his last two. 10 ER in 10.1 innings. 5 and 5.1 pitched each game. Not a good trend heading into the playoffs.

Funny you mention that, as last night I heard multiple times how the Yankees always work the pitchers, waiting, not swinging right away... and there they were, going against what got them there. Funny how random stuff happens for no good reason sometimes.
