Can someone just give me a quick reason why all these fights started with Tom Wilson? What did he do? Haven't been watching any games.

In the midst of a scrum Wilson grabbed Panarin by the hair, kicked his skates out from beneath him ("slew footed" - a big no no), and slammed him to the ice - could have seriously injured him.

After the game the Rangers were in an uproar - NHL: $5k fine, no suspension - then the Rangers organization was really in an uproar and called out the league inciting much yap yap everywhere about the issue and Tom Wilson.

THEN, the Rangers fired their GM & President, John Davidson. If there's a Mr. Rangers, it's John Davidson. Fans are now apoplectic.

So that fight was going down no matter what. I applaud the Rangers for standing up for themselves, that the Caps won the fights on the ice don't even matter. That I'm an Islander fan (sworn enemy of the Rangers) no matter, team stands up for team - that's why in many respects hockey > the rest.

Now consider this: Tom Wilson has a rap sheet like George Floyd and outweighs Panarin by at least 60 lbs. The Rangers have 3 budding stars, potentially superstars, two are undersized and one is average (Zibanehad 200lbs, Adam Fox (defense) 180 lbs, Panarin 170lbs) ... and those guys need on-ice protection badly. Get that & some goaltending and Rangers zoom to the top of the league. Big if.

But they (James Dolan) fired the brass who assembled this team and kept the guys (Drury & Quinn) who the fans are not so crazy about - Dolan they despise. For the first time in my life I'm interested in following the Rangers off season.

Yeah, that line isn't getting old.

          ---

The reason is because he can actually play, too. But he's bad for the game. Not because he's an enforcer - but because of his penchant for cheap shots. Whether it's intentional or he has no control over himself he runs the risk of ending a player's career or worse with his crap. I would be embarrassed to be a Capital defending him yet again.

I am really surprised Quinn did not get fired yet. I don't see him lasting though. As a Rangers fan, it is sad to see the dysfunction from the Knicks is now apparent with the Rangers. They have no physical guys who can get down and dirty. The roster is not built well to sustain a smash mouth hockey game.
