#186You know why 3rd world countries don't lose power in cold weather? Because the utilities are regulated. The goal is to provide power to the citizens they serve and not buy a 5th house and a 3rd yacht to the CEO.Comment -

#192Any state or city that is majority non-white will become 3rd world status.
Once california and texas become majority brown, it will cease to function as a higher quality white civilization.
Same with chicago, baltimore, detroit, etc...Comment -

no it has to do with deregulating the power companies, perry refusing to put money into the grid. also abbott refusing to issue an order to winterize the system. BUT those mexicans in el paso aren't in the group so they had power.Comment -

#203Yeah, variable rate plans aren't the norm as far as I know. Mine's the normal $200/month (2 story house, 1 AC, so the summers reach $800/mo or more; got the 'average it out' situation so I don't pay a grand each August).Comment -

#210Yep, the big freeze put the big hurt on Texas, and you will feel the pain for a while. There are oil refineries that are just getting by now on Band-Aids and duct tape. I keep getting calls asking me if I know of facilities with spare equipment they can buy. It is a big squeeze in the slurry pumping world right now and as an affect there will not be too much gas, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene, or many other dead dinosaur products so the price of gas will inflate pretty substantially for a while.
Yeah facilities around the world that have the equipment capable to do the work are limited but they are helping as the oil community always does, it just isn't enough. To put it into perspective, a lead time on a "Hot head" petroleum cracking pump, which is a pump needed to help separate fuel when it is distilled from oil takes about 10 months from the order if everything goes well. This means that everything will be expedited and companies will be able to shave off about 3 months from that time, but that still means 7 months of band-aids and duct tape.Comment
