Maybe they score on the next play, OK. Now you got 2:30 left down 16 with 2 timeouts. Even if you recover just 1 onsides kick you got a fighting chance. Is it likely? No. Maybe less 1% chance. Still better than 0% by punting. Plus coaches should instill playing through the tape and not quitting. Plus, playing like this the last couple minutes is good game practice for the next situation.

Why the hell couldn't they? Down 3 scores with 2:40 left and 2 timeouts. That can be done with just 1 onsides kick recovery. I could see his QB wanted to go for it and assumed they would. Only reason coach could think it's impossible is if he knows his team sucks....helluva message to send. Afraid to play 60 minutes because might get hurt is loserville.
