Simple answer to this. Teams can't run the ball and work the clock.

Yup. I'm from a different era. A 21-0 lead in the nfl was game over in the past.

You know I am a Jets fan. The only good teams I have seen in my lifetime were "ground and pound". Rush around and over them. If that doesn't work rush it again and again and again. If that doesn't work, guess what, rush it again. Fuk I love those two years with Jones and Tomlinson. Just rush after rush after rush. Hammer the defense until they can't fight anymore. Now it is just watching QBs throw pass after pass after pass until their defense can't stand anymore because they are on the field for 90% of the game. Only reason is their offense didn't chew any clock.

NFL teams are grossly mismanaged. There are teams going for 2 when they are up big or down big because they think it has higher expected value than the PAT, yet at the start of the game they don't do it. Which the fukk is it then?

too much on metrics and what to do at a specific time in a game. coaching based on actual intelligence and feel is limited to a few coaches nowadays.
laker is right. so many teams think they can run but few actually can do it on a championship level.

Lol what metrics are they using? This defensive stupidity is bad whether you use common sense and/or data.

It's made for TV, please remember that when betting prime time live.
Play calling influences the outcome 1000% more than officiating.
It's entertainment. And that game last night, as bad as it was, was entertaining.

So frustrating teams refuse to put other teams away and then let them match down field for easy tds and get confidence back

Are you proposing that after a team goes up by 2 TD's late in the game they should kick an onside kick so they can get the ball back and score more points?

No, just play your defense the way you normally would.
It's especially laughable when the defense has been stopping everything all game, then suddenly they give up the whole middle of the field.

If the offense is running plays with 4 WR sets are you going to bring in more LB's and safeties to stop the run? I'm not sure I understand your logic here.

You do what you'd do if it were the first play of the game.

No one plays hurry up offense with only passing plays on the first play of the game. The defense adjusts to what the offense is doing when they have the lead. Not the other way around.

Yes, exactly, and it's totally moronic. You are well primed to be an NFL head coach. Congrats.
This is the same thinking in MLB... you use your closer in a save situation only!

No I'm going to use the closer I pay $20 million a year in the middle of the 2nd inning to get an out on their bottom of the lineup batter. SMH.

What a shocker, you're clueless on baseball strategy too!
So tell me on the football formation you described, if that did happen on the first play of the game, what would you do on defense? Just let them get 8-9 yards running down the middle each time?
