been watching him closely for years and he still doesn't understand rotations and match-ups. it's bewildering how he doesn't know his own personnel despite the team having lots of continuity in their roster year to year

he's very good at player development and relatability, but his tactics are glaringly poor. i have lots of respect for him but it's such a headscratcher how he continues to fail in these critical areas

Being calm under pressure is a fantastic attribute, but ripping someone to shreds when they deserve it is equally important.

Stevens a good defensive coach but it seems like he does better with low talent NBA teams than talented ones. It is impressive they are 4th in defense with that personnel to me.

yes, he either doesn't know how or is too timid to send messages when needed with benchings

the freedom he allows players in the offense is what causes all the turnovers. from one possession to the next, you never know who's going to try being the playmaker. Tatum and Brown are the worst offenders with this, for some reason they think their handles are great but they're not, especially in halfcourt sets. they're constantly going into traffic with their heads down and either getting stripped or throwing high risk passes once doubled in the block

Stevens doesn't understand the offensive game in the NBA, how to use the bigs he does have to set screens and in the PNR. he just kinda ignores those tools to use and seems to be fine having all his guys spaced out along the perimeter to ball watch whoever's ISO'ing at the time. he doesn't emphasize or appear to value true PG play nor does he scheme around it, that's why they often look so disorganized and turn the ball over

This guy is the only fade better than Lang, what a bunch of bluster. He disparages "systems' or "algorithms" at 1:10 precisely because he has none, just a big mouth, and it's not like he gets paid due to his results, which have already been shown to be awful on that money talks show with Pirelli. I wish JJ could have gotten Darin Notaro (Stevens real name) on the line for one of those calls, lol. If this guy averaged $1000 a wager for a year, I bet he would be down $150k easy, probably even more because he would start chasing once he had a month where he went 5-30.

Why is this guy still coaching the Celtics? When you have studs like Brown and Tatum you don't lose to Pistons, Wizards and Hawks (3 of the worse teams in NBA) within a one week time frame. Brad Stevens has clearly lost this team.

Stevens is a top 3 coach imo. Stevens/ Nurse/ Spolestra. Neither one having a good season but this is a player's league after all.

He can afford to be patient; Tatum is still only 22yo. Worst thing he can do is make a panic trade, penetrate up the future, then watch Tatum leave as a FA.

I'd like to see them - or any decent team - trade for Vucevic. He's too good to be spending the last years of his prime on a team that has two starters out with torn ACLs.
