Baseball not Starting till Mid May

I doubt they even have spring training. It's not really necessary anyway. Most guys don't hit their stride until July usually as it is. They might throw a few exhibition games up starting like a week before the season starts, and then it should be go-time around the middle of the month.

They might just round it to an even 100, squeeze in as many doubleheaders as they can. I think baseball is in the best position of all the sports. Little to no player-on-player contact, and they've played games in empty stadiums before. They'll miss out on a ton of ticket and concession revenue, but that's gonna happen regardless. Might as well get that TV money and try to get that spot as the "first sport back." Tons of eyes will be on them if they do start back up first.

I would look at Memorial Day weekend. This thing is going to start blowing over around the start of April, IMO. Media can only scare the general public for so long before cabin fever starts kicking in.

Guy you are lost if you think the public demanding normalcy has any weight in if the sports leagues start back up. The fear hasn't even really begun to start yet yet and look at what is. Once this really starts to peak the fear is gonna be crazy!! Good luck

i got this bad feeling we will go on national lockdown soon......i think with the new numbers we will see this week, it will be soon, a lot of states now are closing everything down..mich just did it today.

Yes agree..they are just starting to shut things down like restaurants..bars..gyms. This is just a start to get the public use to things being closed..they are easing you into a national lockdown.

This is my guess and it's just that, a guess that MLB won't start until July and they'll play a half season 82 game schedule.
(Yes I'm aware a 1/2 season is 81 games but it's easier to schedule an even number of games.)

So would they redo the whole schedule? Or would they just start the schedule in May/June and just say the April was cancelled...so some teams might not end up playing each other at all?

My guess is redo the schedule.
It's all done with a computer program, it doesn't take long to make a schedule but it has to be division teams weighted.
By that I mean if they do a 82 game schedule instead of division foes facing each other 16 or 17 times they should face each other eight or nine times, if eight each division foe will play each other four times at home and four times on the road.
Nine games is tricky, if each team plays each other nine times three series of three games makes sense, but who gets 6 games at home and
three at home.

Maybe get rid of the interleague schedule and all star break that would free up some space. I know the birds and scrubs were supposed to play overseas in July? That's probably scrapped.
