HOUSTON -- Romeo Crennel will not return as the Houston Texans' defensive coordinator, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Texans have promoted defensive line coach Anthony Weaver to replace him, the sources tell Schefter.
Crennel has been on head coach Bill O'Brien's staff in Houston since 2014. He served as defensive coordinator until 2016 and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2017 when Mike Vrabel took over as defensive coordinator. After Vrabel was hired by the Tennessee Titans, Crennel again was Houston's defensive coordinator, also continuing as assistant head coach.Comment -

O'brien is the worst head coach in the league. As a coach he is barely above .500, has a 2-4 record in the playoffs. As the team's general manager? He sucks too. Has no first round pick this year or next.
Instead of changing the structure of the front office, O'brien fires Crennel and keeps his control over the team.

Exactly! It is Bill O'brien running the entire operation into mediocrity. Until he is fired as head coach and gm, things will roller coaster up and down. The Houston defense has a lack of talent and one dumb mother rooster_eater picking the talent.
2020 will be the down. Texans will be one of the teams from the 2019 playoff group, that misses the playoffs altogether in 2020.Comment -

Winning record in 5 of 6 seasons. Playoffs in 4 of 6 seasons. 4 division titles. 3 of those seasons without a decent starting quarterback or their best defensive player being injured long term. In my book, he's done good with what he's had.Comment -

O'Brien is the problem. If I owned that team, I would have fired him in the locker room after giving up a 24 point lead, which should have been another TD because he cowered and took the offense off the field upon reflection. Turning point in the game. IMO.
The guy is just a coordinator in disguise.
